How often will they be changing tenants? Realistically, this should be done as a can with retainers for each face. What is the size of the sign? Interior or exterior? Doing it the way you are describing means that it is literally as easy as sliding out the tenant name to remove it. That means...
Just finished installing a sign for a customer (PITA, BTW - the sign, not the customer).
Sign is top to grade, 13'. It's a 5'x10' sign. The customer's old sign was a 2 piece with a 4'x8' flex change letter board. They didn't want to buy new lettering, so it came down to putting flex channels...
The issue is going to come down to three main points -
1. Long term/Short term?
2. Budget
3. Experience with the product.
If they want long term, and have an open ended budget, then OP is right - painting is the way to go. If they are short term, or have a limited budget, then wrapping it...
Bottom Left - no gradients means cheaper printing and easier vinyl work - even easier painting work.
The removal of the script element keeps it from feeling too dated.
