Check for any air in the lines. It looks like you have an ink flow issue. If one of the dampers didn't get put on quite tight enough of there is a defect causing a small amount of air to get in the system, it will cause this type of banding.

When you send the file from Corel to the hot folder do you use the FineCut software? If not, that's the issue. The hot folder doesn't take pure EPS files. It needs the FineCut plug-in to convert it to a Mimaki file and then sends it.

What interface are you using to connect the plotter to the computer? Basically it just can't connect to the plotter. Most likely just a setting that needs to be changed.
It all depends on the profile. Some profiles have locked in settings and some don't. Did you import the profiles from your old software or just download the new ones from Flexi?
About 14 years ago I was in college and worked at a brand new start up sign shop. They started me at $8 per hour but then quickly upped it to $12 per hour once they saw I could do the job. I would agree with the above $15/ per hour as a base for someone with not a lot of experience yet.
Mojave Sign Ad might be what you are looking for. It's a vinyl that is made specifically for walls and windows and is repositionable. It's more of a satin finish and is a little thicker so it's easier to apply. I don't know what about Phototex makes it able to print edge to edge but Sign Ad does...
