you're talking the vacuum-formed polycarb faces? yup, if you decrease the distance from the light source to the face of the plastic, then you'll likely see the hot spots from the bulbs/diodes. Piedmont Plastics have always done well by us. Nearest location to you is in Portland, Oregon.

agreed that the ability to use scrap pieces of vinyl on my old solvent printer has been & forever will be missed. My HP Latex throws a fit if I put anything less than 36" long, so I do find myself tossing out a lot of scrap rolls BUT I also find myself not hoarding every single piece of scrap...

need like a 1" margin between pinch rollers and crop marks. also, make sure the plotter has the correct crop mark setting that matches what your printer outputs. if I am understanding correctly, it will correctly scan print&cut files that are less than 36"? is that the size of your plotter...

agreed that an alignment shortcut option would be legit, but I've never needed it with my toolbars setup on my second monitor for quick-click.

just figured it was worth mentioning, in context of your example: press M, draw rectangle, hold Ctrl to select and move drawn rectangle, release Ctrl and draw another rectangle. ....if you wanted to avoid pressing M, draw rectangle, press V, select rectangle, etc.

also noted, that you can quickly toggle to selection tool, while in (M) Rectangle mode, by pressing Command(Mac) or Cntrl(PC)

i merely said you can change your shortcut keys, which you can. sorry if you feel need to disagree because you want to change it to something ridiculous and it won't let you. The OP made reference to simple controls like "Draw Rectangle" and "Selection Tool", which I highly doubt he intends...

HUGE world of difference once you learn your shortcut keys. also noted, that, you can change them to whatever you like via Edit > KeyboardShortcuts however, I still use the default.

if using heat, which you may require to even get the adhesive to stick, be extremely careful about warming an area too fast. the glass will expand in your hot spot, and surrounding glass will not, causing the pane to crack/shatter as a result. on that same note, be very careful when peeling...

make sure you're CLEAR on what they're actually asking for with transluscent vinyl. Sounds like they want some sort of layering-effect, that allows you to see beneath it... so you're actually looking for a tinted vinyl or printed on clear. ...and pretty much any cast vinyl will allow you to...

check with cheetahwrap.com, will accurately reflect what brands (3M, Avery) that fellers cycles the most and will sell you yd, 10yd, 25yd options. ...oracal, however, is no longer on that list.

calling your local building dept./city hall would clear up most of your questions: swapping out a sign cabinet for another usually requires a permit. sometimes even changing vinyl on the face of an existing sign does too, depending on city. whether or not you're allowed to pull a permit...
