  1. Need Help Mimaki JV3 cleaning options

also noted, if you want to save a buck you can make your own cleaning solution if you have access to a chemical supplier. search the forums for the exact recipe, as it has been nearly a decade since I've done it, but I made my own Acetone+Butyl Cellusolve mixes for like $10 vs. $100 per liter...
  2. Need Help Mimaki JV3 cleaning options

cleaning/flush solution cartridges are for the system cleaning procedures. while it might work, as the cleaning solution is intended to be run through the lines/printheads, you still have the issue of them not having those little electronic chips that the printer reads as an ink cartridge/ink...
  3. Looking to buy a pylon sign build step by step tutorial...

regarding that "Vast electrical" video posted above, does anyone know what Polycarbonate thermo-vacuum forming machine that is? I've only seen them as big as a truck, but I'd love to have something in that scale for some custom projects!
  4. Rant Have we been lied to about how sensitive a solvent print head is? (e.g. DX5)

i STILL have a dozen Jv3 printheads (dx3), that I had tried to restore years back but mainly kept them around for diagnosis. So yeah, i've tried this too.... no dice. you can't fix a scratched printhead, you may get to a working point but you'll always have prints that are less than 100% &...
  5. 3M Dusted Crystal installation

for those reading, you should NEVER mask a graphic and roll it graphic-side-in. graphic-side-out will prevent tunneling and will keep the mask stretched tight to the graphic, and the graphic stretched tight to the liner.
  6. 3M Dusted Crystal installation

contact vinyl supplier, send a new one or pay you the 1-2hrs it would take to fix....which is possible: i would delaminate the premask, possibly with water assist (wet the mask, it will release easily), squeegee-flat the vinyl to the backing as well as you can, possibly re-roll it onto a...
  7. Does anybody know what brand this cutter is?

+1 keencutter i don't think they come as multiple tracks that fit together to become longer, just standard lengths they offer. its just extrusion, with a proprietary pattern/track built-into it that the cutting attachment is designed to ride on. ...tho' i'm sure you can contact and order...
  8. Need Help l25500 Printing Blurry on some passes

if the material isn't buckling/tunneling during the print, then I would guess it having something to do with media the feed. I get those misaligned prints on my HP at the end of my roll, when the printer is trying to tug on the last bit of vinyl that is taped to the core. either that, or your...
  9. Cast vinyl and Calendar vinyl differences....

I'd say Canuck's LMGTFY is a proper, cheeky, response to a topic that's rehashed over&over again on these forums. people will also hint at the fact, that you can use the "Search Signs101" option to find the existing threads with same question (spoiler alert, there's at least eight since 2010)...
  10. Looking to buy a pylon sign build step by step tutorial...

above being said, there are bare-bones sign packages with instructions from suppliers like SignComp and you build your own access panels to suit your needs.
  11. Need Help decal not stinking to wall paint

+1 our sales reps carry around 1" chunks of scrap vinyl to test surfaces on clients' walls prior to production. if we get un-stick-able surfaces, we upgrade the vinyl to something more like an Arlon 8000 motorcross-style hightack adhesive. works like a charm. we've lost a lot of $$$ in the...
  12. Looking to buy a pylon sign build step by step tutorial...

all illuminated monument/pylon/channelletter signage have access panels built-into them. usually up to your fabricator where they want to put it, but it is usually as least-noticeable as possible. that way, when a power supply/LEDstring needs replacement/service, your tech can unscrew a panel...
  13. How to be profitable with eBay pricing?

+1 you don't bother to compete with them, unless you're in the market to make crappy banners as cheap as possible. even big-name storefronts like FedEx Office, HomeDepot, OfficeMax, etc. won't bother to sell them that cheap. not worth the effort if you're only profiting $.02/psf. misprint one...
  14. Dome Labels

there's youtube videos available regarding the process, but its pretty much that straight-forward: cut/weed your decals, and pour-on your resin. the surface tension of the resin keeps it from running-off the side of the vinyl letter (as long as you don't apply too much at once) and then the...
  15. image sources

we use provehicleoutlines for templates. if you can hold-out long enough, they'll usually have discounted ISA Show pricing available that you can request even if you don't attend.
  16. Laminate for Chapsticker Labels

liquid laminate is the cheapest way to go p.s.f., can be applied with a paintroller if you don't have a liquid laminator.
  17. Dome Labels

doming is pretty neat, and relatively easy to do yourself. I've gotten some great effects on dimensional lettering as well, especially ones with metallic laminates. these guys will even send you samples of their product, which may actually be enough to do a few 6-8" letters.
  18. Is their a shortcut to toggle between two tools

HotDoor CadTools for Illustrator is our go-to. LOVE IT! ....also lets you add shortcut keys for its functions, via Illustrator keyboard shortcuts menu.
  19. cutting out reflective printed decals

i only have this problem with reflectives. pretty sure the issue is the refraction of the laser light hitting the glass beads of the reflective material, causing a glare that the plotter cannot read/scan. I like the idea of the scotch-tape/matte laminate over the cutter marks, gonna try it...
  20. Need Help I'm looking for a pan face fabricator

we have also been known to do a "cheap/quick-fix", by routing-out the square face of the existing thermoformed plastic and bonding a new piece of lexan over the top (weld-on has an 2part epoxy designed for polycarbonate). We then framed the new plastic in opaque vinyl to hide the glue'd portion.
