  1. Mounting PVC to glass... what adhesives should I use?

whoops, acrylic on the brain. the 5952 will do for PVC/glass, which I'll usually supplement with 100% silicone & add vinyl backer to reverse-side of glass to hide my gobbly-goobers from sight.
  2. Mounting PVC to glass... what adhesives should I use?

acrylic to glass? best surfaces you could hope-for. I'm a big fan of the 3M 5952VHB tape for large pieces, but if I want smaller fine-detailed letters/logos to not have the thick grey foam pad showing then I go with a thinner clear tape like the 9473. also consider for glassmounting, some...
  3. Jv3 not printing Magenta or yellow

cross-contamination. ink is jumping-over from your black printhead to your magenta, somehow... usually due to a dirty/bad wiper, dirty printheads, and/or dirty capping station.
  4. WTH is this architect talkin bout?

i know what it is... :toasting: (aluninum faces, 1" welded aluminum returns, backed with clear lexan & filled with white led's, 1" standoffs mounted to aluminum backplate)
  5. Just like grayscale... but red

hot damn, way easier than my suggestion. looks great too!
  6. Just like grayscale... but red

I know you've found what you like, buuuuuut just throwing it back out there. desaturated image overlayed over red base layer with gradient:
  7. fontI.D. me a.s.a.p

looks like I may just create a new font for this project, with Gin as the basis. Should only take me about twelve blue-ribbons :)
  8. matching wayfinding signs

the layering is very crude, most definitely custom. modular wayfinding systems tend to have extruded pieces of some sort. this looks like it was just cut/layered/bonded on the fly.
  9. Just like grayscale... but red

derail, but random interesting note: photographers used to redscale images by loading film backwards into their camera. Red gets absorbed first and thus washes out the other colors in the spectrum. pretty neat trick! never used corel, but i'd image you could just desaturate/greyscal the...
  10. brain fade

    perspective tool?
  11. fontI.D. me a.s.a.p

its a bit rough, but uploaded a bigger image. live-trace'd from photographs of the actual letters themselves, who's original layout most likely never came from a computer.
  12. fontI.D. me a.s.a.p

similiar serifs to Gin, but the differences in letters like "G" "S" "M" & "T" stand out like a sore-thumb :( Best option I have thusfar, however. i could always modify it & just create a font set just for this client.
  13. fontI.D. me a.s.a.p

Doing some work for the good ole' Blue Ribbon and apparently they haven't a clue what font was used to create these letters for them some decades-ago. I can try to enhance the picture a bit more if it helps, but the lettering does have serifs. tracing would only help me for the letters...
  14. Vinyl that lights black at night??

aside from simply adding a white outline, or black perf which will illuminate white at night, you can: A) add push-thru plexi for the top logo & cover with vinyl. the returns of the letter will glow white and create an appealing illuminated, black, logo letter. B) black diffuser film, or...
  15. Vinyl that lights black at night??

wait... you're trying to illuminate BLACK?!? sounds about as crazy as the fact there is a black option on transluscant vinyls in the first-place. or the fact that after 20yrs in the business I still refer to matte black vinyl as "trans.black" just because that's what it is in the Gerber/3M...
  16. How are "chalk signs" made?

my buddy owns a bar, frequented by the artists from the tattoo shop right next-door. pays them in beer to doodle up the boards with simple direction, and they run with it however they like. my freehand is lacking, so if I had to do it, i'd just get use my laptop/projector + chalkpens to "paint...
  17. JV3 160s head strike problem

funky media & heat settings are most likely the culprit. and if you're head-striking already, I would STOP doing what you're doing and run some long nozzle-washes to clear-up any gummed-up printhead nozzles before they become permanent deflections. (I kept my printheads at the high-setting for 8...
  18. small office sign frames - supplier/source?

recognize these? Looking to find wherever my client/previous sign company may have ordered these from, over a decade ago, before I quote based on fabricating from scratch. I can route these from acrylic if needed, but I'd rather not make this a project if I don't have to. both are 3/8" acrylic...
  19. What is the best chemical for removing vinyl and glue?

NEVER use Goo-Off brand adhesive remover. destroys plastic, most recently confirmed by wiping down a sheet of polycarbonate... which dissolved/spider-web'd within minutes. (one of our install guys was out in the field without remover & ran to local walmart to see what he could find)
  20. Data Recovery experience

had a major crash a few years back, on our NAS server. 20years worth of everything (design/production files, photos, survey info, etc.) we thought was safe with mirror'd hard drives (which we NOW backup two offsite copies of) was gone and every recovery service in a 1hr drive said they couldn't...
