  1. has anyone tried making their own H frame sign stands?

i've never bothered making something that I can buy for $0.50 a piece
  2. Clear Epoxy over Decal?

that's a debate for solvent printing in general, which I have always sided with "better safe than sorry". although I've whipped-up printed/laminated decals in an hour and they've held up just fine. +1, however, to laminating the prints prior to coating the boards else chance your prints...
  3. Mini Cooper Minecraft Wrap - Just completed

+1 all I hear are crybabies too scared to have some fun. I doubt any company would spend the time & legal resources to go after a one-off car wrap, or a man-cave, or a laptop printcover that has copyrighted material unless it is clearly generating some sort of income or unwanted attention...
  4. JV3-160sp Cyan Overspray

I remember that thread! Boy was THAT a headache :) I always harp on people about following-up threads with resolutions, as to help those searching for similiar issues BUT it looks like I never did in that case :( overspray, for me, has been cured by printhead cleaning & flushing machine with...
  5. Do I require a new K head?

not 100% familiar with your machine but: how does the printer clean the heads during its normal cycles? is it a wiper? on my jv3, it would wipe with a rubber wiper during ink cycles. So when I wanted to "scrub" the printhead, I knew I could saturate a foam swab with cleaning solution and give...
  6. Do I require a new K head?

if your alignment is 100% & nozzles firing at 100%, then it could just require a media feed calibration.
  7. Do I require a new K head?

i think the tech has you derailed, with the "carbon content" line. Even if this is the reason that black printheads may fail quicker than the others, its still no reason your printhead should be dead within a year of replacement. My black printhead lasted 4 years before needing its first...
  8. Do I require a new K head?

If your nozzle test print is 100%, then you may simply need some better alignment. there's multiple procedures of alignment for the different print modes and your tech may have cut a corner OR you simply knocked it out of place along the way. doubtful you can fall back on a printhead...
  9. Painted / Screen Printed aluminum

for custom paint color graphics, we paint vinyl then cut/mask/apply before it hardens too much. for screen printing, if that's your thing, we used to just order custom colored inks... but we don't screen print anymore. Too much mess. Paint mask & paint or Painted Vinyl if we don't print it...
  10. do you think a 2ml 3m vinyl would hold up on a mug with dishwasher cleanings?

I make drink chips for a local bar using poker chips + IJ35/8510. they run returned chips through the dishwasher everyday, high temp, and have yet to see one fail in over 5yrs.
  11. What paint for lexan pan face sign refurbishment?

banner/coroplast + screw it over the existing face if its just temporary, paint is already overkill ....so is vinyl removal.
  12. I was under the impression that Gemini sold only to Sign Shops?

i've always known that anyone can purchase from Gemini, at catalog prices. we, however, have had wholesale pricing at x% off catalog setup through them for years.
  13. Alternative to Oraguard 210

3M's 8509/8510 is legit. No issue here in the past 5+ years. On that note, if you're using calendared materials... you can't be too picky. Its a price-war, so quality will always vary, but I highly recommend 3M/Arlon/Mactac as good brands to compare alongside orafol.
  14. Loading rolls by meyself becoming an issue, looking for inexpensive solution

+1 to "hey, can you help me with this?" I can load full sheets of up to 1/4" aluminum onto the router table by myself, but when I have the opportunity to ask for help... I do.
  15. Need REALLY CHEAP Reflective vinly......

how about reflective spray-paint and reusable stencil? or just spray background and screenprint your copy over it? ...its cheap, but so is that market :)
  16. Who actually has rights to this......??

goofus has his banners, as paid for. Done deal. ...you weren't paid to become his graphics department. Great clients I'll bend-over backwards for, because the cost of artwork setup usually has been paid-for many times-over by return business & quick payment. They may own the rights to...
  17. how to wrap a bottle

can't simply convince your client to wrap the neck and body of the bottle in 2-seperate pieces? much easier & cost-efficient... otherwise outsource it to someone that actually prints the plastic and THEN thermoforms the bottle to shape. I bet I COULD wrap a bottle in one-piece, but no way...
  18. Manually Laminating Vehicle Wraps... Is it possible to master?

if I were stuck on a deserted island, and the only way for me to find rescue were to McGuyver a wrap lamination with nothing but vinyl application tools then I would have two ideas: option A) tape tile to the rock suitable as a worktable (can't get sand in your lamination, duh), and then...
  19. Google drops the serifs after 17 years

very excited that a friend of mine was part of this: my lithuanian polka-dance partner from high school, who's fiancé I am extremely jealous of :) It's not just a new logo, but a step-forward into an ever-expanding corporate entity. (see "alphabet inc.") I'm sure most have read up on it, but...
  20. hello please, where do I get a carbon vector file from, need 4 foot by 6 foot

search youtube for vector carbon fiber, and there's detailed instructions how to draw rectangles with gradients to make a pattern and then you use the pattern to tile/fill any shape you like. e z p z
