    Seams on a sign like this aren't usually objectionable and depending on the design can often be minimized behind the letters/logo. I'd use prefinished acm and add a nice raised border .

    I also thought it could be porcelain. There was a company near me that was doing them till fairly recently. But the paint/mask/paint/clear is probably the most economical way to duplicate it

    Yep, they just about force you to buy it, unless you want to fix it yourself. Or if you can locate a local tech who works on them reasonably. I have different hp printers and back when I used to fix them myself when they were out of warranty. But I don't enjoy doing it and my time is better...

    Wow, that's in great shape. did he keep it inside? In any case, if it were my friend I'd suggest a budget repaint or partial wrap. Either way he can try to remove first, but he risks making it even more work
