The guys running the class are from SGIA not from Mimaki but will be demonstrating on Mimaki printers and software. I'm sure they will be able to tell you how it translates to other machines and software.
Mimaki is offering color management classes throughout the next couple of months. They aren't free but you get hands on training from guys who actually do it for a living. Just in case anyone was interested.

As someone who sells sign making equipment, I can tell you that Gino has a good point. I have had a good amount of people buy an entire print shop (printer, laminator, cutter, and some finishing equipment) and then a year later they come back asking us to buy it back because they got in over...
I just charge double for service calls on weekends. I have only done one weekend service call in 8 years. Work life balance is extremely important to me. I will stay late on a service call if it goes past 5 just to get it done and I have even pulled a 14 hour day once for one customer who lived...
Are you in a situation where you can afford a printer and do it yourself? $2.77 per square laminated with optically clear lam is about what I would expect from a wholesaler. Perf is one of the more expensive vinyls and optically clear lam is even more expensive. I can't see getting your cost...
On most Mimaki printers, when the machine doesn't power up, it's a fried main board. The main board distributes power throughout the system so if it goes bad, things just don't turn on. Very rarely it is a bad power board but I would get the main board fixed first.
If you are just trying to make a shadow effect with cut vinyl, why not just copy the vectors you want shadows on and then make the copy black and place it behind the original image and then just offset?
Thanks guys! Honestly, posting here keeps my diagnostic skills up to par. Most posts I see are the same issues I see all the time but sometimes I see an issue I have never heard of and learn from it here so I can use it in the field. Also since I don't run a printer everyday, it's good to get...
They used to charge almost $1000 to convert to SP-300V. Little did those poor business owners know that all you had to do was flip a dip switch on the main board. I have done it on every SP-300 that I have ever worked on.
I always love reading about the experiences you guys have with tech departments. Most people have debunked the myths above. All DX series heads, DX3 through DX7, are made by Epson. Mimaki, Mutoh and Roland license the technology which is why there are so many parts that are interchangeable...
The way L.D described it is the proper way to do it. Pushing it all the way to the back doesn't align it. The machine has to be free to move back and forth to find the right spot.
Cross contamination is almost always either a bad cap top that doesn't drain fast enough or a bad damper. Check your pump tubes to see if they are clogged and flush them if necessary. I would change the cap top and dampers especially if they are over a year old. Start fresh. If that doesn't fix...
I'm not sure what model that machine is compared to for the Mutohs so it may be more like the 1304 and 1204 where the main board is underneath the back platen. That long metal piece that runs along the back of the machine where the media normally runs through. If there is no box, then that is...
You are going to have to take the top right cover off, when looking at the printer from the front, and you should be able to see the board from there. It'a about 4" x 8" and will have an Ethernet cable plugged into it. That's the cable you need to take out and clean the terminal and then plug it...
Ha ha. Well it's basically a Mutoh ValueJet with Xerox's name on it. Check that cable and even air dust it out to make sure it makes a good connection. If everything else is working properly, I would start with the heater junction board if cleaning out the cable terminal doesn't work.
So I'm going to guess that you have some sort of ValueJet but if you could give a model that will help. Error 79 means the main board is not communicating with the heater junction board. The heater junction board does not run the heaters believe it or not. It actually runs the ink cartridge...
I am willing to bet that your default color profile is for a paper material and not a vinyl material. This would cause Versaworks to not see the cu line because it doesn't want you to try to cut paper because the machine is not meant to. So if you are not on a vinyl profile, the lines won't show...
This doesn't look like a printing artifact to me. Also, as you said, I think you would have noticed that when sending the jobs out. Not only that but if your other print jobs turned out fine, I can't see it being a printer issue. I am thinking if they were laminated maybe the lam is failing. If...
Most cutters will work with a Mac these days. I prefer Mimak's FineCut Plug-in for illustrator. You cut directly out of illustrator which is convenient.
