Unfortunately the best option is to find one you like and adjust how you do things to fit it. You will never find the perfect software.

Does pulling out the battery work on all Mimaki's i've got a UJF-6042 and i have some expired ink as well. Does that do anything to the warranty on the machine too?

We have a smaller Mimaki, What series ink are you running? We have the S100 Ink set with White and Primer and any time i need to print to a yard sign I wipe it down with 3M Primer 94 First. Seems to work pretty good for us. Might want to give it a try.

Anyone can write a program that is compatible with the Mac. Putting something on the Mac App Store is different than just writing software. I hardly ever use the Mac App Store but love the programs that are written natively for the Mac OS.
