I do this every day with plastics. Use gussets where possible and a confirmed working epoxy/adhesive and it'd be quite strong. In my limited dibond production experience I've used gorilla glue in a pinch for something similar, although I'm sure there's better alternatives.
I cleaned with vinegar and finished with 70% isopropyl alcohol
No primer and a smidge of heat to lay the vinyl in with 220*+ of post heat
Avery 1005EZRS w/ 1360 laminate
I can get close up pics for you.
Avery 1005 EZRS and 1360 lam worked fine for me last week. I just layed it in cold and post heated it properly afterward, no problems a week later when I saw them again.
I've switched most of my wraps to the same stuff Justin used in that class and quite frankly I've been impressed with how nice it's stayed in place. I'm eager to try the Oracal 3751 though.
I used to work in close proximity to a Mutoh Valuejet and that thing screwed me all up. If you're doing eco-solvent I'd still work out a powered venting setup.
The oracal mattes are very nice. I've had some glue problems w/ preadhesion on the 1080c where it left glue behind when I yanked stuff up to smooth out some problems - the finish was not perfect in those areas. The avery goes on well too I thought, but you have to squeegee pretty heavy handed...
Agreed, I'd take plain 180c anyday over V3, but w/ all this Original Wraps business I don't know I'll be suggesting MMM to my printers any longer.
The avery I was using was 1005 w/ the 1360 lam and the solid SWF stuff.
I would take that ^^^ with a grain of salt. 3M has changed a whole helluva lot since plain 180c was available and I spent all day dicking around w/the new Avery stuff and it's pretty slick.
The Avery 1005 & 1360 combo and the Supreme wrapping cast materials are quite nice. I'd use the 1005/1360 any day over 3M 180cV3/8519. Aside from 3M/Original Wraps drama, I haven't been happy w/ the latest batches of 180cV3 and the 1080c. The adhesive seems more aggressive and the air egress...
I keep having preadhesion problems w/ this stuff where it leaves glue on the car near hinges when only tacked in place. The nerds I do these wraps for haven't been too happy, I'm eager to try the Avery sumpreme stuff next car I do.
