  1. Discussion Questions about Mimaki printers

Honestly there’s probably not much of a difference between all the main brands other than user preference. Especially between mimaki and Roland. 9 times out of 10 if an engineer does rolands they also do mimaki’s. Obviously there’s the ink types, solvent, latex etc but at the end of the day...
  2. Uggghhhh

That’s exactly why I stopped specifying a rough file size for customers. I used to say any file over maybe 2MB should be ok enough quality for most sized canvases/prints. Soooo they started taking SCREENSHOTS of their low res photos from Facebook and the screenshots were always like 2MB.
  3. Uggghhhh

A personal favourite is Me; hi, this photo is very poor quality and isn’t suitable for the canvas/print you would like, can you send me a higher quality photo. Please avoid Facebook/WhatsApp/twitter etc as they downsample photos (lower the quality). Customer; hi, this one should work...
  4. Uggghhhh

I did some graphics for a football (soccer) club three or four years ago. They wanted some sponsors on there but hadn’t actually gotten sponsors, so in my mock up I had little areas left and just wrote the word “sponsor” in there whilst awaiting the logos for the sponsors. They loved the...
  5. Anyone actively pushing “green” materials?

Honestly the stuff seemed pretty decent. The mesh especially was about the exact same price as our current supplier just a little thinner. We got our Colorado from canon and they have a pretty extensive recyclable/pvc free range if you ever wanted to take a look there. As far as selling...
  6. Looking at a Mimaki CJV300-160

We have the CJV30 and it’s been an absolute tank for 8 years. Went through one head but that was an operator fault. The printing and cutting were both more than up to standard. Mimaki makes reliable machines. What I can say, is that the rip software you get with it (rasterlink) is average at...
  7. In search of a roll printer.

Whatever you go for, remember you’re going to need a laminator for anything you plan on putting on a vehicle/outdoors.
  8. Busy December?

Agreed. We’re starting to quieten down now (hopefully short term!) but we’d already doubled last years takings in the first three months of covid. All I can say is we’ve given the Colorado a beating!
  9. Busy December?

Crazy how the year has aged us all 10 but I’d swear it went January, February, March, October..
  10. Dry Erase Magnetics

Second photo to me looks like that’s just vinyl + dry erase lam mounted to a magnet. That graininess in the print is a dead giveaway.
  11. Opinion JV150-130 Ink Options

I’m in the UK so my suppliers are all probably rebranded. What I can say is I’d only recommend third party inks if you’re going to be busy enough to warrant the savings. When we switched our mimaki to third party our OEM supplier gave us all the “it’ll melt your print head” nonsense. When we...
  12. Opinion Roland TrueVis Vg2 series VS Mimaki CJV 150 series

I have an old mimaki. The CJV series has always been pretty sturdy, never had any issues with cutting and I’ve easily print/cut 600,000 square feet of vinyl through that thing. It’s a tank. That being said, I HATE rasterlink. It’s a very limited rip software that only really supports mimaki...
  13. Possible Alert! PrintingEquipmentDeals

Are they a merchant member? That probably needs looked at..
  14. Need Help Color printing is off.

If the cap tops are being seated correctly etc then it may be them, are they OEM/from a reputable supplier (I.e. not China). The more reputable parts you have in there, the less variables you might have. Do you clean the cap top(s) as part of your maintenance procedure? I change mine out once...
  15. Question UV flatbed recommendations?

The stratojet 4’ by 4’ sounds ideal then. Again, I’ll mention that generally if you’re going for a flatbed, the jump in price from 4x4 to 4x8 won’t be huge. So if you think you may regret not getting the 8’ down the line, you’ll save yourself a ton of money going for the larger one right off...
  16. Question ONYX RIP

The time onyx has saved me is well worth the money invested. Just depends how much you value your time I guess. I’d be slightly worried about that printer though. Pretty sure it’s EOL and parts/inks etc may dry up sooner than you think.
  17. Question UV flatbed recommendations?

Agree. That’s why details are important. How small is small?
  18. Question UV flatbed recommendations?

So if you don’t need something that can print a 4’ by 8’ sheet. There aren’t too many big players unless you want to go the China route. you should probably look into the mimaki UJF series or the Roland LEF-12i. The Roland has a max print area of 12” by 11” if you want really small, though...
  19. Question UV flatbed recommendations?

You’re going to need to detail a minimum size you need and a budget. ideally a minimum boards per hour too. If you prefer speed over quality. If you need white ink etc etc basically, the more info you give us, the better we can help you.
