  1. 'Green' Sign Guy from Upstate SC

Welcome from an hour north! Happy to have ya.
  2. Floor digital vinyl no lamination

first off, a print with no lam would wear off within weeks or months depending on foot traffic on it. Second off, OSHA regulations for floor graphics require them to be non skid. you can put whatever you want on a floor, even without lamination. It just doesn't make good sense.
  3. Doing "Back Cuts" with a friction plotter

Thanks all! I forwards Hicalibersigns' recommendation to the customer, and dale's email as well. all of these are great ways to do it. I know there is a machine to roll printed stock through to back cut, but when you only need a few at a time, I think the hand tool would be the best method...
  4. Doing "Back Cuts" with a friction plotter

My normal sources have turned up a blank on this issue. I was wondering if anyone here has ever done back cut stickers. By back cut, I'm referring to cutting through the backer paper only, in order to be able to split a decals paper in half to more easily peel of the decal. A lot of label...
  5. Work in progress...

The "Screaming Gorilla" in the top logo was the only part of either i really liked. It has a lot of pop, and would make good decals for sell as well. Get the lettering cleaned up, and you could be going somewhere. PS: there are a lot of people that won't find his shop on a google search due to...
  6. JV3 Printing black streaks

Often you have to turn off the machine with the breaker switch first. Then hold FUNCTION & REMOTE, Then go to the #ADJUST Menu. Then you're see HEAD I.D. Find the ID of the old head, and replace it with the new head's ID.
  7. JV33 uneven colors

Looks more like a media issue due to low color saturation rather than anything the printer is doing. If you have other pictures that show more why you think its related to the printer, please add those.
  8. Help! Printing to Mimaki JV3-160SP and RIP questions

new RIP software is usually about the same price for barebones software. the only way you're going to get something cheap is to buy second hand an older version. you don't have to worry about compatibility with your printer, since it's old too, but you do want to make sure it will run on your...
  9. HELP: "Waste ink tank full" msg on my Mutoh vj-1604A

There is a sensor on the waste ink tank. if you don't have a tank, it will not run. put on the waste ink tank, and you'll be fine.
  10. HP Latex :: Window films

http://www.clearfocus.com/products/perforated_vinyl_uncoated/postervue.php That is what you're looking for. regardless, you'll have to have 2 steps. printing on non-adhesive media, then applying an adhesive coating to the printed face. I've seen customers use it with with 2 sided tape around...
  11. Making a splatter effect in Illsutrator, how do I do it?

or, use brushes. there are some pretty random brush templates, then you expand them out to get the vector shapes.
  12. Mutoh cost of ink 12c a sq ft? Come on...

They are fooling you with math. You have a 4 color printer, so "MAX" ink coverage (no profile or anything) is 400%. typical coverage for testing for cost is 250% coverage. at 100% coverage, you're probably looking at 12 cents. at the standard percentage, you're looking at the far more reasonable...
  13. Where to buy banner sewing machine?

Dual needles and lock stitch is your best bet. Unless you want to go threadless, in which case the Miller Weldmasters are awesome. i've seen them in action both in customer shops and at shows, and they are great. Regardless, look for used commercial sewing machines if that is what you are...
  14. PDF / Illy Issues

Do you know what program the PDF was made in? Any program in the world can create a PDF, so there is not really any standard in the format. If it is a PDF made from AI, there is some sort of mask on it. I doubt it's an AI PDF, however. It was probably made with something else, and its causing...
  15. Need Hardware Key for Rasterlink Pro 3

If you get a key, you're buying the software. For that price, get a better RIP other than RLP, which will support other printers besides Mimaki (for down the road). When you buy RIP software, you're paying for the key. The software is free for download on most of their websites, but doesn't do...
  16. OMG Please help me

you can't print directly to this printer from windows. If you've installed the mimaki firewire driver, setup the driver in windows correctly and have setup the printer in Flexi, you should be good to go. if not, either the driver isn't working correctly (windows already installed a bad one)...
  17. JV33 ES3 to Triangle JVV conversion

depending on your color accuracy needs, flushing and refilling isn't a bad idea. It is not necessary, but there will be slight color variances as the two inks mix and work the old ink out. They are color and chemical compatible, however, so it won't damage your system to use them. If you're no...
  18. Do you think I'm asking too much?

I'm thinking you overpaid for the parts, and will get a less than stellar ROI. Considering (with the specs mentioned) you can build a very meat and potatoes version of what you said for under 250 bucks, assuming your 320GB drive is not an SSD. I wish you well, but yes. you are asking too much...
  19. HP L25500 Cyan Head Fail

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth then. Keep an extra set of Cyan head on the shelf, and every time they fail early, get free replacements. thats a 33% savings on head costs! I'm half kidding there. Obviously it's a pain in the butt, but at least you're not having to pay out of pocket for...
  20. Gotta love the stupidity of some people....

As much as that sounds funny, If the customer has business insurance, the cost of a replacement banner would be covered by "Act of God". It's a pain, but the insurance company will cover it sooner or later, and after his deductible. I've seen shop windows blown in by hurricanes, and insurance...
