  1. Just got a new printer! What the heck is it?

Hi everyone, I just inherited an HP DesignJet 450C; model C4716A, from a relative that used it to print blue prints. All I know about it is that it's ~36" wide and it is a CMYK roll-fed printer. Does anyone know about this older model HP? I'm not even sure what type of ink it uses! Hoping to...
  2. Reg marks inside of graphic

You'd probably be better off using a single set of marks for your graphtec. Have your different tool functions on separate layers; kiss-cut on one, and through-cut on another. Are you trying to have two types of cuts in one job? if so, that's how I do it. Good Luck!
  3. The best brand of razor blade?

I didn't have room for another large laminator with longitudinal slitters, so I bought a cheap small one and made a slitting device for it. I've cut about 3,000' without changing blades yet. I wanted something easy to maintain, so I went with eXacto blades. A male-female blade set-up is...
  4. How much would somebody charge to convert to vector?

Separate the colors in PSD, like Pat suggested and process print.
  5. Scrap Magnet?

Aside from just trashing it, which may be the most economical choice, you could sell it to a recycle facility; probably get a name from your manufacturer. If the pieces are at all uniform, they could be sold to a hobby type store... There is one by my that I say 6"x7" mag blanks in a bin selling...
  6. tape sticking to window

Guess it's best to test! I should be doing that with each install anyway. Thanks, Miked
  7. Summacut D160R - When loading, unrolls whole roll

There may be a problem with the media sensors; front &/or back. Try turning them off and see if the problem persists. It sounds like the back sensor is searching for the end of a "sheet." Good Luck! Miked
  8. Had some fun with my own boat on Friday!

Looks good! The design is awesome!
  9. tape sticking to window

Dry install with R-Tape clear choice. The install hasn't happened yet, but I was warned about transfer tapes sticking to glass. I wasn't familiar with that happening other than with a paper tape. Could this happen on a clean window and dry install with a non-paper product? Thanks, Miked
  10. tape sticking to window

Has anyone ever heard of transfer tape sticking to the substrate the decal is adhered too? Such as the tape takes the vinyl off of the liner, but then the tape won't release from the window the vinyl was installed on? I don't understand how this could happen. Thanks, Miked
  11. Suggestion on a Transfer/Application tape

Does anyone have a suggestion for a high-tack clear transfer tape? It will be used on calendared white vinyl with a polyester liner that has a fairly tight release value. The vinyl face will be solvent printed, thermal trans printed or simply contour kiss-cut. All will be weeded and have a 1:1...
  12. Printer in hot garage?

Depending on how close your neighbors are, you could vent the fumes from the ink and warm vinyl by blowing it up and out; a suction fan under the printer with an exhaust hose near the roof line. The fumes will dissipate as they sink, and probably be at a low enough density that they aren't...
  13. Sp 300 vacuum loss

had the same problem problem last month with a JV33; 7 years old, and the dust/overspray clogged the fans 100%! Cleaned the fans and head scrapes stopped. I've cleaned all of the JV33's now, and will continue to monitor them. I haven't ever seen this in any manuals...
  14. Double sided Vinyl Decals

clear film with a mirror print, white flood coat and then second print?
  15. Legal issues with using Pro sports team logo for wrap?

Generally speaking, you will have to pay initial licensing fees along with royalties. Checkout LogosOnDemand, CLC, SMA and LRG licensing groups and you can find out what it costs to get a license. The licenses are not for general use, but specific product categories; if the NFL already has a few...
  16. Printer in hot garage?

Ideal conditions would be 70*@ 50% RH while printing. Store the media inside the house if you have room. The packaging; plastic bag within a cardboard box should be kept to store unprinted short rolls. The cardboard will act as a humidity barrier for your material and the plastic bag they're...
  17. Flash based website

Flash is pretty simple; I built my fine art portfolio just by skimming the book. Adobe bought it, and it became even easier; almost WYSIWYG with common code being sort of like a "Graphic Style" that is "drag-n-drop" now. I would say that one way for you to help him out would be to direct him to...
  18. Doming Issue

our resin comes from up North, and can arrive cold. We seem to get bubbles with cold resin. A heat belt wrapped around the 55gal drum gets it up to temp. A flame will make any tiny bubbles come together and rise to the top. Going slowly around the perimeter at low volume and then going toward...
  19. Double cut (when I don't want it to!) Illustrator/Versaworks

+1 for converting strokes to outlines
  20. Unattended Customer Pickup?

Couriers and a pick up area with video are both good ideas, but my first thought was about your customer picking it up without you there and then calling you with problems. How do you get them to "sign off" on the prints now, and if you let them pick up after hours, do you lose the opportunity...
