  1. least amount of time before laminating.

another technique is to use an IR drier and air circulation to expedite drying.
  2. tech support

I'm looking for a company to partner up with that will handle our technical service needs for Mimaki, Summa, Graphtec and Gerber equipment as well as RIP software issues. The support from Summa and Gerber for the plotters and T.T. printers is great, but Graphtec and Mimaki support is lacking...
  3. least amount of time before laminating.

even if you lam before completely drying, the solvents can still migrate out through the release liner (paper liner)
  4. how do you attach your printed vinyl to take up?

Kentucky Wraps presented my fears pretty clearly. Head strikes can be expensive if you need to re-print, or replace a print head. I also prefer the operator spend that 4-5 minutes loading another printer, plotter, weeding or masking. Another point about waiting is that you really should pause...
  5. how do you attach your printed vinyl to take up?

easiest for me is to load the take-up with a remnant roll of the same width material that I will be printing and tape the leading edge of the fresh material to it. Same process when cutting too. I have just waited 4 min in the past, but if it touches the floor it can get dusty or even worse it...
  6. contour cutting window perf

yep... The graphtec mark is looking to be the easiest due to it's shape and the fact that we can make the marks fatter and longer as opposed to the smaller marks of some other plotters.
  7. contour cutting window perf

the S75 could only read 5 out of 6 marks surrounding my print. Wish I could make the marks larger!
  8. Weird Wasatch Barcode Problem

Thanks Castek! Checking into Onyx today.
  9. contour cutting window perf

laminating makes sense as it would provide a solid printing surface, but we don't want to pay for the lam (material, time & labor.) We used to use the OposCam, but as far as I know, Opos Cam doesn't work with the bar codes that reference the cut file. I'm going to switch one of the units...
  10. contour cutting window perf

We get LOTS of requests for ~12" SQ logos to print on perforated vinyl; like an FSU Seminole head or University of Florida Gator Head with a contour cut. We contour cut and then bag the decal; customer installs
  11. contour cutting window perf

Been searching old threads but couldn't find what I'm looking for... What plotters do you all use to contour cut window graphics printed on perforated vinyl? It's been hit or miss with lots of plotters I've worked with because the registration marks don't completely print on the perforated...
  12. Weird Wasatch Barcode Problem

does anyone know of a rip other than Wasatch that supports Barcodes and Summa plotters?
  13. Weird Wasatch Barcode Problem

We are having a problem with printing barcodes in Wasatch. The barcode Wasatch prints at the front of the job is fine, but the barcode printed at the end of the job has a gap between the vertical and horizontal lines that prevents our plotters from reading them. This is forcing us to rewind...
  14. Printing RGB photos on CMYK printer

The conversion to CMYK from RGB is usually handled by the RIP
  15. Expired white ink

Not sure if it will hurt the printer, but fairly confident that it will not produce a good print. I would buy a fresh one.
  16. variable data

once for some apartment complex parking decals using Gerber Omega, and another job for a soccer team and used Wasatch's VDP. No Barcodes or Serial #'s though. I know there is a barcode plug in for Illustrator, and you can also use eXcell and inDesign to make a "vdp" layout.
  17. decals for flower pots

compound curves are not easy. If they will give you creative freedom, an upside-down triangle can make things easier. It doesn't have to be pointy or ugly, just subtle enough to conform to the shape.
  18. Any training classes offered???

trial by fire! (and lots of Google and YouTube and Signs101!)
  19. Media Detect

also, gabagoo has a good point as well. if your working with exotic material, there may be some weird reflection causing problems. A light will work. However, when processing an entire roll of jobs, you can print a filter on clear material and temporarily affix it under the eye to compensate for...
  20. Media Detect

I do not have experience with that particular model, but on the JV33, the media width sensor sticks out from under the carriage and left of the head (if your facing the printer.) I have had head strikes that change the position or angle of the sensor resulting in a bad reading. Take a look under...
