  1. Take-up reel

we've made similar take-ups for some of our printers and 1 of our laminators. The photo switches are great for the printers, but for the laminator, we put a torque limiter near the motor for a couple different reasons. For printing, I like the idea of having the take-up a little lower and...
  2. ShopBot

I sent an inquiry about this to the folks at ShopBot yesterday and haven't heard back yet. Does anyone here use one with just a plasma or router?
  3. ShopBot

Has anyone ever used a CO2 laser on a ShopBot system? Thanks, MikeD
  4. Digital media curl

use a white (unprinted) margin, or let the print dry prior to cutting
  5. Printing full bleed on reflective

you can print and then immediately lam, and then cut. The vinyl may still shrink, but at least it won't curl. I have a decal that I printed and immediately laminated and cut. The vinyl shrank and there is now a clear border around the print... It's best to match vinyl to lams that have the same...
  6. Printed stickers [with bleed] edges curve-up/unpeel

cast material will hold it's shape better than calendared. Most manufacturers tell you to leave the print for at least 24hrs, but it really depends on the ink limits of the profile you are using. Heat and air flow can expedite the dry time. Good Luck!
  7. Printing full bleed on reflective

I agree with a longer dry time
  8. foil durability

Does anyone have real life experience with Summa's Durachrome Metallic Foil outdoor durability? The Ribbon Color Guide states upto 2yr for the matte and "indoor only" for the metallic. I just did a print with Mirror Silver, and I can't scratch it at all; the vinyl tore up before the foil failed...
  9. Graphtech Error Code

What kind of substrate are you printing on?
  10. Graphtech Error Code

You should be able to scale "cut-only" jobs, but if it is a print & cut job it should be 100%. Make sure the step size in your plotter driver (Cutting Master?) is the same as your plotter.
  11. Graphtech Error Code

Also, if this is a roll-to-roll and the pinch wheel/grit roller is dirty, or the wheels are set to different pressure, the media may be skewing
  12. Graphtech Error Code

If your graphtec is a flatbed, is your print layout larger than the cutting area of the flatbed? Do the dimensions of your marks match on both the digital file and the actual print? Did the media feed through the printer straight (are the side margins constant?) If those three variables are...
  13. Tips on installing post in concrete

a narrow shovel for trenching or most narrow digging jobs
  14. Painting pressure treated wood white

Saw a thread about this a while back that suggested a rigid vinyl sleeve as well. I used to do construction site signs and brushed tar onto the lower 2' and put them in concrete.
  15. Wrap for fun

I do not currently wrap vehicles, but I've got access to large format printers and I'm thinking of wrapping my personal truck. I can't really afford 3grand to have a pro do it, and I think it would be a fun project on my own. I've seen a lot of detailed discussion on signs101, but I am still...
  16. Automation in Photoshop - PDF to JPG

You can record these steps in an "Action" and then "File>Automate>CreateDroplet" Through Windows, you can drag entire folders onto the Droplet and the steps will be applied to each file.
  17. Mimaki Fine Cut 7 ?? Anyone have it ?

I use it frequently and think it is a free Illustrator plug-in. Try Google. Good Luck
  18. Anyone know a good charity for the holidays?

I think food banks and shelters are good ways to give with good faith that your donation will be used the way you intended. Donating to education may have a longer standing impact, but I don't know the channels to go through beside giving directly to local schools. We are getting ready to donate...
  19. Office / Shop Security

DukeBrown has it right... the guy next door always said he didn't need an alarm because of all the guns he has- someone came in and stole all of them while he was away the day after Thanksgiving! I was thinking of lending him one, but I don't want it to get stolen! An alarm system that...
  20. Oh boy! I get to do some research tonite on a new cutter.

we currently run graphtec flatbed plotters, 2 graphtec vinyl plotters, 1 Mimaki plotter, 6 Envisions and 5 Summa S-75 and an S-140. Summa is the best performer out of the lot. It will also perform the flex cutting well. Summa plotters have automation built in as well; re-plot, bar codes and...
