  1. Summa S class 140 T

Summa's plotters have a tangential head while Graphtec's (in my experience) are typically drag-knife cutters. However, Graphtec plotters can be set to emulate tangential cutting. More importantly, Summa (also in my experience) offers much better technical support.
  2. Booze in the shop?

doesn't sound like getting sloshed, but that could get outta hand really quick, and even just a few drinks can earn you a DUI.
  3. Flatbed printer question

Look into Direct Color Systems small flatbeds; solvent and UV models available with a ~13"x24" print area. Great print quality, and DCS has great support for their products. Good Luck!
  4. Illustrator Actions For Finishing banners

if your borders are going to be different all the time, but you only want 1 action, maybe you could ALWAYS have your border on it's own layer named "border," and record the step of selecting all items on layer "border," (record clicking the little radio button on "border,") and then go through...

the amount of shrinkage varies between different media and even from print to print; heavy ink versus light ink.
  6. Equasion to compensate for shrinkage

  9. Weeding problems

perform a test-cut to ensure you have the proper settings for your blade in regard to where it's at in it's life- still sharp, or getting dull. Make sure you have the right offset value for that particular blade as well. talk with your media provider to make sure you are buying the right...

  11. Why is Print Quality so low?

I agree with FrankW's & genericname's assessment above. One other idea to keep in mind is that most large format printers were engineered to output signage that will ultimately be viewed from at least 5ft away. The graininess tends to be more evident in lighter colors, so if you have creative...
  12. JV33-160 white ink worth it?

Unless it's needed on a daily basis, white ink is not worth the maintenance effort. Also, it took a lot of ink and time to achieve opacity. We got rid of white. As for the metallic, it was really interesting but rubs off with light pressure. UV printers may be a better option.
  13. Used summa any good?

Summa equipment is very reliable and accurate in my experience. Their tech support is the best of any company in any industry I've dealt with as well.
  14. Anyone have troubles with cutting master 2?

Does it still give the error if you draw and convert a rectangle to make the marks versus having the plug in do it?
  15. Condensing length of text on a path

have you tried adjusting the kerning? I think the handles you're referring to adjust the starting point around the circle and position on circle (inside the path, or outside the path.) Good Luck!
  16. scaling in Ilusstrator CS4

Thanks! The only issue I have at this point is getting the scaling to originate from the lower left (0,0) instead of the object's center. Is Adobe Illustrator Scripting Forum part of Signs101?
  17. Anyone have troubles with cutting master 2?

The language is definitely important, but I think you should still be able to apply marks. Can you post a screenshot of the error?
  18. scaling in Ilusstrator CS4

I need to scale a bunch of vector files up by 1.005%. Not much experience with the scale tool... I would like to write an action that does the scaling and I'm looking for a place to type in the scaling factor. Any advice is appreciated! MikeD
  19. Take-up reel

There was a question about why anyone would want to remove the core from the take-up after printing instead of unwinding it: Depending on the type of job; decals for example- print the entire roll and then remove it and load it directly onto a laminator or load it onto a plotter. Even though the...
  20. ShopBot

we run a bunch of lasers; lots of different constructions, but all CO2. We have an onsite guy that makes and maintains them. Some point down and travel, some are horizontal, don't move and use additional mirrors. I want a system for personal use and it just seems like ShopBot overall is the most...
