  1. Photoshop scale?

depends on the intended viewing distance of your finished print. if it's a billboard viewed at 75mph & 50' away, you could drop your image/print res down. if it's a decal being viewed at arm's length, use a higher ppi/dpi. outof the 3 formats you listed, jpg uses compression whereas tiff and eps...
  2. how do you clean JV33 encoder strips!?

Does anyone have experience cleaning JV33 encoder strips? Thanks for the advice!
  3. Gold

lam with a material you're sure has wide spectrum U.V. inhibitors in it
  4. jv3 nightmare.... encoder strip

cleaning encoder strip Glad you got your problem resolved and you're back in business! Can you tell me how you cleaned the encoder strip sensor and how you would clean the encoder strip itself? I am having some issues with a JV33 and it was recommended that I clean the encoder strip... 99.9%...
  5. Aggressive Adhesive

the customer is obviously concerned, and therefore be willing to make a more permanent sign that is cemented/welded in place. Sounds like the signs should be in a puddle of water and electrified to help teach the thief that stealing is wrong.
  6. Use permits for welding and painting?

If you get audited in any way, you could just bite the bullet and comply; that way, you will know for certain that you and your employees are safe. http://www.trs-environmental.com TRS Environmental will rent you devices that help figure out if there is a problem; some higher end sensors will...
  7. Reverse Wound

the material could have some memory of being tightly reverse wound resulting in a upward bow right over where your media sensor is. Maybe you could cover it with tape, but be sure to watch the end of the roll so you don't end up printing on the bare platen.
  8. RIP for packaging prototypes

I think Wasatch recently added flatbed plotters to their list of supplied devices, but I'm not sure...check their site maybe? Good Luck
  9. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

is it saying "no Media?" after the x axis scan I meant to ask
  10. Variable data photo path question

find and replace/ copy and paste: the part of the path relative to your pc, would be fastest for a 1 time job. Send a template for the rest that's relatively easy for them to populate, and send it to them on a cheap thumb drive that they send back to you.
  11. Pinch roller track marks in print

Static could make the ink droplets jump around, but it doesn't look like static to me. However, eliminating the static would be good anyway, even beyond diagnosing your current issue. Maybe an anti-static wand a little above where your media feeds into the back would be a good idea. You can make...
  12. Pinch roller track marks in print

Try to make sure rollers are clean and dry. The media may be contaminated and transferring that contaminate to the rollers; try a roll from a different lot# if you can. You may rely on the take-up to make the material lay flat over the platen instead of the rollers, and only use the outermost...
  13. how to question....

It may be easier to remove the old lettering and get a good cleaning first. Maybe to the extent of masking off part of the panel and painting that portion where your vinyl will go; kind of like a background or boarder. That would make YOUR part of the project look good, and the customer should...
  14. VDP, Who's using it and what are good uses for it?

Used Gerber to make some decals for an apartment complex that were given to residents to put on their car windows. used Wasatch to make a bunch of soccer ball decals with the variable being the team member's name.
  15. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

"FWUpdateTool3.exe" is what's used to refresh or upgrade the firmware the JV33's. Haven't had to do it on our JV3, but maybe you could Google the Update Tool for a JV3
  16. Summa d-140 temper mental!!!

Those are really weird symptoms. Does it only happen on laminated prints? If so, you may be able to mask over the marks, lam, and then cut the mask off revealing un-laminated marks. Then opus won't have to deal with reflectivity the lam may be giving off. of course you can't do that for every...
  17. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

another possibility would be the media sensor and or cable on the pre-heat shroud right behind the platen. Maybe the printer doesn't know it has media loaded?
  18. jv3 160sp oddly stuck in "local mode"

If it's the lever up, I think that is controlled by a photo sensor...maybe you could cut the wire to that sensor close the loop, by-passing the sensor itself. I did that with the sensors on some JV33's, but it was for the switch cover (Part Code M508772.) However, with the other symptoms your...
  19. Oxidised surfaces

chemicals or abrasive I think the safest method would be to use a pressure washer, or even a sandblaster with walnut abrasive. On the other hand, I am wondering why the customer wants to put vinyl on a degraded piece of metal without having a body shop repaint it first. If there is visible...
  20. Best Wall Vinyls?

photo tex has been the most successful for me. as far as laminating, the weight of the graphic will increase, and the adhesive may not be upto holding. having said that, I have laminated some small (12"sq) graphics printed on Phototex and they have been on the wall for 3years. ALWAYS clean the...
