A UV flatbed printer could print directly on the cutting board. I doubt the inks are rated as food safe though. That could be the difficult part, finding inks that are considered safe for use around food and prep areas. At least with screen printing it's just a matter of grabbing a different...
Epson uses the ultrachrome inks in it's aqueous line up. They are what's referred to as a hybrid pigment ink. This allows it to print on glossy medias, but impacts the lifespan of the inks. They toss a "matte" black into the mix as well. This is their true pigment version of the black ink.
If...
With something like that it will only be a secure as the ground it goes into.
If you know what the ground is like where you're installing and think those will be safe and secure enough then go for it. I don't know if I'd risk an entire large project on it though. You won't save much time if you...
What solved it for me was to just turn the platen heater off. I leave the pre and post heaters where they would be normally.
I haven't had a head strike since. Even with LG banner vinyl which was the most finicky of all the brands I've tried for 13 oz smooth finish banner vinyl.
Mimaki has a small format direct to substrate UV printer available.

Probably a bunch money than what you're looking at, but at least you'll know who to call if you need service.
Search the site for some of Artbot's posts. He has a solution for...
Budget for a good liquid laminator as well. Aqueous inks will need to have a protecting coating applied. Both for UV and scratch protection. The clearstar products work awesome for this. Spraying them is a pain and the shit gets everywhere. Rolling them simply takes too damn long.
The only time I've ever had that issue is when the vinyl is loaded into the cutter incorrectly. IE: It shifts slightly as it reads the opus marks and by the time it returns to the home point to begin cutting the vinyl has twisted slightly.
As each vinyl will have different thicknesses and...
Seems I converted all my files to outlines and now the customer is looking for some new banners. For the life of me I cannot remember what font I used and there's just so damn many to go through. Perhaps someone here can save me a ton of time.
For a true Giclée reproduction you need to use 100% cotton PH neutral canvas.
Even eco-sols will eat the cotton eventually, so every canvas made for solvent printers is a cotton poly blend.
If you're doing a lot of canvas work the hot printers for that market are the 12 color canons and HP Z...
Perhaps the maintenance settings could be changed to have the printer perform more self-cleaning cycles?
When these drop-outs occur is it during a point in the run where that ink hasn't been in use or does it happen even if that channel has been printing fine up to that point in the print?
I've done it a bunch.
No matter what, make sure before it goes to press that your printer signs off on the imposition you've supplied if you're unsure of what you're doing.
I've had a printer supply me with an incorrect imposition guide before and they had to reprint the whole catalogue...
My installers here charge extra for liquid laminated wrap vinyl because they hate working with it. I've never worked with it, so I have no idea of what their particular issues with it are. I just figured I'd pass that along in case it helped your quote.
