  1. wind slits in banners

I don't do them. Saturday I replaced a 3' x 8' banner I'd done for a customer about a year ago (it was still in good shape, they just wanted a new message). I didn't count but I bet they'd put at least 50 slits in it just like the ones you described.
  2. help with this one

That's exactly what it is. http://www.dafont.com/add-city-boy.font
  3. font id Please

Looks like Peignot or its lookalike, Exotic 350, to me.
  4. Turn $20 into $5000 - is it possible?

I understand the point of your post. My point is my customers no longer want hand-painted signs. We still paint gym floors, and an occasional walldog job, but that's about it. And I know all about trying to get One Shot off of vehicle doors. My dad had me doing that for him from about the time...
  5. Turn $20 into $5000 - is it possible?

My father and brother both hand-letter. We've been in this location since 1996. I bet it's been 10 years since we've had anyone ask for anything hand-lettered. No one wants to letter their vehicles; when your lease is up or you sell your van, it's almost impossible to get the paint off.
  6. alternate characters?

    ^ Yes. Insert symbols.
  7. scissors

I almost always keep a pair of scissors in one of the pockets of my work pants. First it was a back pocket of my shorts. Then the front right pocket. Now that I've gone to cargo pants/shorts, it's the cargo pocket on the right side. Coincidentally, all of those old shorts have holes in them...
  8. Mascot Update... Again.

Yep. An eye with warpaint below would do the trick perfectly.
  9. Shop van design critique

For starters, it looks a little crowded.
  10. Illuminated sign.. best printing option?

One of my suppliers in Knoxville will sell all its vinyl by the yard/foot. Comes in handy when you need a color or product you know you'll never use again.
  11. So how do you learn to letter by hand?

We get .040 for $40 here. The .032 is $35. You're getting screwed.
  12. Is it customer's fault or mine

I'd say you share the responsibility, but more of the burden is on you. I have customers all the time who fill out work orders or bring me copy to use that contain misspelled words and other mistakes. IMO, it is my job to correct those mistakes.
  13. Stealth wrap concept

    1. I agree that a simple layout >>>>>>>>>>>> complex layout that you can't read. However, if I were going to wrap my vehicle or trailer, I would want to take advantage of the strengths that wraps provide. Why wrap something if it's going to look exactly like a lettering job with regular vinyl...
  14. Stealth wrap concept

I love all of wrapman's wraps. Just saying if I were a customer and I were going to pay wrap prices, I would take advantage of it and get a more intricate design. And as a sign guy, I could put the exact same design on that trailer by replacing the aluminum and putting cast vinyl on it. Pretty...
  15. Stealth wrap concept

Not sure what the wrap cost, but they could have replaced white aluminum with black aluminum sheets for ~ $40 each.
  16. Need help with a pdf

If you have an older version of flexi, it won't recognize newer pdf versions. A friend of mine has to go into Acrobat and save his pdf files as version 4.0 to work with Flexi 7.6.
  17. 33 metre banner rolls....NOT!!!!

A local supplier used to do me that way with vinyl all the time. Then he started competing against his customers by making signs as well.
  18. How would you go about redoing this sign?

When I get a customer too cheap to pay the small difference for translucent vinyl on an electric sign that will be lighted, I let him give the job to someone else.
  19. Font id please

Could also use Exotic 350, a Peignot lookalike. Also use the insert character function to switch a real apostrophe for the generic one.
  20. Recognize this font?

Thanks for your help, everyone. A local medical practice gave me an appointment card and told me this was their logo. It turns out it is the logo of Hope University in Liverpool. A hospital employee thought it would be a good idea to "borrow" it.
