  1. Banding problem

Crazy! Glad you got it solved. Static is a weird one, normally it doesn't express like that.
  2. Just starting out in signs

Check out some of the hybrid printers. They're pretty good "jack of all trades" machines.
  3. Need suggestions for printer/cutter

No, you're right. I agree with you 100%, I was making (or at least trying to make) a joke. Honestly, I wouldn't even say that it's been designed that way at most places I work. It's more like, "Hey, Bill is retiring" or "Frank got canned" and the jobs get spread out until "somebody new gets...
  4. Need suggestions for printer/cutter

I'm pretty sure you just described a typical day for at least 30-40% of the people on Signs101. Add in a few extra steps and it's a pretty standard day for me.
  5. Need suggestions for printer/cutter

It's also worth mentioning that if you get a combo printer/plotter, you can only do one of those at a time. So if everything you print gets plotted, you're going to double the production time for all of your jobs. Unless you're printing an entire roll at a time, you're not going to be able to do...
  6. Print on matte black

Looks very cool. Love the shop dino. Haha!
  7. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

We almost always wait 24 hours (obviously there are exceptions). We just keep stuff on the roll and loosen it a bit to let it outgas. Are you physically spreading prints all over the place?
  8. Need Help Can I Apply Laminated Cast Prints Wet?

I overdid it from about 19-35. I don't drink as much as I used to. Haha!
  9. Need suggestions for printer/cutter

I'd say at least half, likely more, especially in the beginning. Your boss is definitely going to have to hire another person and depending on how he pays for all of the equipment and how much the company is outsourcing, it's probably going to be a couple years before he sees any ROI. It'll...
  10. Stranded on an island and can only have five fonts......... must choose

If it's good enough for James Cameron...
  11. Need suggestions for printer/cutter

How much printing is being outsourced right now? In addition to the printer/plotter you're going to need a laminator, some finishing equipment, and an employee (plus you're likely to also need someone to assist them from time to time depending on what you're doing) to run everything. If your...
  12. Print on matte black

Good thing those hospitals are flush with cash.
  13. Print on matte black

That's all white ink? Oof, I bet that was expensive!
  14. Need Help Can I Apply Laminated Cast Prints Wet?

There are many, many days that I wish Bushmills could be a part of my work day.
  15. Need Help Can I Apply Laminated Cast Prints Wet?

I went back and read it again, I thought he was referring to cleaning the surface before wet applying. I wouldn't recommend doing a wet apply with alcohol.
  16. Need Help Can I Apply Laminated Cast Prints Wet?

Unless you're spraying the alcohol directly on the adhesive there is virtually no chance of that happening. We clean almost everything with 91% or 70% IPA before we apply anything.
  17. Air bubbles 6 months later...

Bubbles are between the vinyl and the substrate or the vinyl and the laminate?
  18. Need Help Alpha "china printer"

There are a lot of fly-by-night operations in China, open one day and closed the next. This happens all the time. Lots of people get bamboozled. I would buy a used, refurbished, or floor model printer from a reputable manufacturer before I'd buy a Chinese printer. Heck, I wouldn't even take one...
  19. What features on a router can't you do without

100%. Get the biggest table you can fit/afford. It'll pay off.
  20. What features on a router can't you do without

In addition to the above, a drag knife is huge.
