  1. PDF coming into Illustrator weird

Sounds like the text isn't converted to outlines and it's substituting default fonts which aren't lining up correctly. If it doesn't have to be vector, rasterize the .pdf in Photoshop, it'll come through perfect every time. If it has to be vector, create a new document in AI, place the .pdf...
  2. Vinly for plastic trash can

Made by Convex, it's a higher-tack version of their regular stuff. And it is high tack, really high tack. They warn you don't stick it unless you want it there, it's stupid strong. God help you if you're weeding it and you get it stuck to your arm hair. We buy it from Graphic Marking Systems...
  3. Vinly for plastic trash can

We do a TON of decals for trashcans for one of our customers. We've tried ORacal, Arlon, and Mactac and the only thing that sticks well to them is Convex Pitbull, others, including regular Convex, didn't stick nearly as well.
  4. Hanging Banner 'Stand'

I don't see why you couldn't just mount a regular banner stand upside down. In my mind it works beautifully.
  5. ?s about making a 3'x30' double sided banner

Sew it definitely, and you can't sew this on a regular sewing machine, double-sided banner material is heavy as hell, you'll tear a non-commercial unit up in no time. Never use tape on a double-sided banner, especially if it's going over a road. We use Bantex 18oz double-sided material, strong...

  7. Wallpaper protection

We've done both. It's hard to roll on in the shop, just because most wallpaper jobs are fairly large and it takes a ton of space to lay out all the prints and roll them. Much easier to roll it on after it's up. Sometimes we send it out and have it liquid laminated by a vendor (same thing, just...
  8. How are you trimming your 8 ft length Photo tex wall murals?

No, we just hold a straight edge on the wall and cut it that way. As far as cutting into the wall, it's sort of like trimming a wrap on a car... Sharp blade and just enough pressure. It's wise to tell customers you have to trim on the wall to an extent, and realistically they should expect a...
  9. How are you trimming your 8 ft length Photo tex wall murals?

We've been using it for about 4 years now like this and I've never seen it shrink back. That said, I prefer true wallpaper most of the time, I don't like how transparent Phototex is, it creates issues sometimes, but it's still a good material for certain applications. We used to use a lot of...
  10. Wallpaper protection

We print lots and lots of Korographics wall paper, some goes up without clearcoat, some with. It's definitely more prone to scratching without, the texture makes if pretty vulnerable. If it's a high-traffic area like a hallway or something we recommend it. If it's a low-traffic area like a lobby...
  11. How are you trimming your 8 ft length Photo tex wall murals?

+1 With Phototex, you'll get a much nicer installation if you increase your overlap to 3/4" or 1" and double-cut the seam once applied (meaning cut down the middle of the overlap through both layers, and then pull up the underlying and overlying overlapped pieces, re-squeegee, and you're left...
  12. Electronic Lobby Sign Vendor?

http://www.stratacache.com/index.php One of our good customers so don't go trying to get their business... (-: Not sure if they will sell wholesale to sign companies or not honestly, worth asking. They manage the content and have some pretty awesome proprietary software and hardware to push...

  16. Signs 101 Membership Qualifications

I agree with most others, they're not hurting us, if anything they're good for us. They're not in the sign business necessarily, so they're not taking food off our tables. Large corporations have in-house sign departments, that's a fact of life, always has been and always will be. Everybody's...
  17. Anyone Ever Wrap An ATM?

I meant Convex vinyl, meant for low-energy plastics like ATMs are often made of. We've wrapped a few and all of them needed a high-bond vinyl like Convex, regular vinyl was lifting after a short time.

  19. Feather banner supplier

Most of the problems we've encountered with Creative Banner have been with their retractable stands, we've had so many fail on us we don't trust them. Literally about 1 in 3 we sold were breaking (we stopped using them in 2009, we had about 30 failures that year), often times they broke before...
