When i think construction, i think the color yellow. Not a bright yellow where it will be hard to read, but closer to a mustard yellow. Construction tape, equipment, ladders etc are mostly yellow, it's a safety thing. Try incorporating yellow in the logo. Worth a try

type your red text. With text selected, go to effects>outline. Mouse over design central, choose color & choose with backing. Hit check mark to commit. Then go back to effects> separate outline.

Those squares look like they were just slapped on top of each other with top one crooked. All the squares look off balanced. The "&" is different on bigger sign. Overall, not bad for first.

Not a big fan of stretching text, you can stretch text slightly and get away with it, but overstretching looks rediculous, and on top of that, harder to read. You can play with tracking. I would maybe lay it out on 2 lines as opposed to just one, but it all depends on what it will read.

Theres a bullseye in the center of your shape, simply drag your shape near the guides where they cross. At this point, Nudge your shape w/ arrows keys, that way, the bullseye will be seen for alignment

show rulers, drag x & y guides to 4 & 5. view fly down, snap to guides. Snap shape to guides. I always zoom in for precision as well
