  1. New Computer...what to buy/recommendations???

Build your own, for $1000 you can do alot. It's not hard. You could upgrade your processor, add more ram and upgrade to Windows 7, but that will cost you about as much as it would to build a much better computer from scratch.
  2. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

That's wierd, we have more issues with large areas of solid colors with vector files, we convert every file we print to a cmyk tiff before printing and nail just about every color dead on. Before you do that though I'd seriously just open that file in photoshop and check to see what the...
  3. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

I'm not saying actually change the color, jsut open the file in photoshop and mouse over or use the eyedropper on an area of the dark blue that's giving you trouble just to see what the CMYK vaules are. If it's a flattened tiff, which is sounds like it is, you can't change the colors anyway, if...
  4. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

I know that, but if it's a tiff it's not a spot color, it's a process color. That's why I'm curious. Converting from rgb to cmyk or back can change the cmyk values. I'm just wondering if you've eyedropped the blue color to see if it's the correct cmyk formula for that blue. You should have no...
  5. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

What are the CMYK numbers of the blue you are trying to print?
  6. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

Maybe it's just me, but we get some funky color issues when printing directly from pdfs. Try rasterizing the pdf in Photoshop as a cmyk image, saving it as a .tiff and printing that. Don't know if it will help, but 95% of our work comes in as a pdf file and we do this to every one and only very...
  7. Bad banding JV3

Kurt, post up a picture of what the banding looks like if you can. It's hard to diagnose it without seeing it.
  8. scanner

Can anyone recommend a decent (nothing too high end) scanner that will definately work with Windows 7 64 bit? Of all the things I thought would go wrong with installing Win7-64 the only issue I've had is my trusty old Canon Lide35 scanner driver won't work with it and I can't figure out a...
  9. Keep the Digs Coming

Ok. Use 2 mil, not 3 mil. You MUST laminate also, if you can't do it in house, outsource it. I wouldn't try horizontal panels on that unless you can do the entire side in one panel without a seam (which you can't with a 54" printer), either do vertical or go for a seamless wrap where each...
  10. Graphtec vs Summa cutters

We've had both. I sent back 2 Graphtecs (FC5100 and a FC7000 because they just couldn't get the job done. Now have a Summa S160D and wouldn't go any other way. They're more money but they're worth every penny. I wouldn't touch another Graphtec if they gave it to me for a boat anchor.
  11. Simple Water Sports Supply Logo

I agree. Nice logo, but too hard to see the "joe".
  12. Jimmy Johnson!

"and they do turn right leaving their pit stall." hahaha
  13. Jimmy Johnson!

dear six pound eight ounce baby jesus...
  14. Jimmy Johnson!

Seriously? You could run an F1 or WRC or BTCC race in your ford Taurus? They don't go 200 mph non-stop because there are CURVES that require the driver to use a certain degree of skill to brake, shift, turn and otherwise manipulate the car more than just flooring it and occasionally nudging the...
  15. Jimmy Johnson!

Oooooh. Neckcar. Riiiight. I wanna drive my monte carlo in circles too.
  16. Jimmy Johnson!

What are you people talking about???
  17. Cheap Vinyl

Never tried their laminate, we still use Oraguard 210 on it, but we rarely laminate the stuff since it's usually used for short term signs.
  18. Cheap Vinyl

For printing, General Formulations Concept 203 gloss permanent, 201 matte permanent, or 204 gloss removable and 202 matte removable. It's cheap, not the absolute cheapest out there, but it is about $50-60 per roll less than 3651, prints and applies wonderfully and seems to hold up well (we've...
  19. Photoshop help

Welcome. What exactly are you having trouble with? Are you already proficient at Photoshop or do you know very little about it? If you're not experienced with it, you really need to either take a few classes in it or at least pick up a Photoshop for Dummies or similar book.
