So what's the problem with contour cutting? Are you buying decals printed from someone else and then trying to get the plotter to accurately register and contour-cut them? Or is the plotter just not cutting regular vinyl vvery well? Not sure I'm understanding exactly what you're asking.

Can you clarify what you mean by "can't quite get the cuts right"? Are they not cut deep enough? Too deep? Not in the right place?

I second the damper if only half of the black head is bad. That or the ink line from that cartridge to that damper might have air in it. I'd bet money it's the damper though.

Yes they have an encoder strip. Not sure about the 33, but we've had our JV3 for a little over 3 years and have never had to clean it.
