The latest firmware, V2.01 will allow you to use 1000 ml inks. I could be wrong but the way I understand the attached screenshot below, there should be no reason why this firmware will not work as long as you will be using MSA ver 3.0.0 or higher (btw, the latest version of MSA in now ver 4.1.9.

One way to get around this is to stick a Post-it note over each registration mark before laminating, then cut out the Post-it note afterwards so there is no more laminate on the registration marks.

Is your printer a VJ-1608 or a VJ-1608H(x)? To confirm this, have a look at the label on the printer near the power inlet. The former is the first generation and did not have heated air, make sure you are using the correct printer driver in your RIP software.

The vacuum setting is on the Media Type sub menu. With this printer model, you can have to 30 (?) Media Types and you can have different values for all of these sub menus, the printer will remember the settings so all you have to do is select the corresponding Media Type to the media loaded on...

To test if this is heat related, switch off all heaters then send the same job. Set vacuum to high and make sure media is feeding straight, then see what happens.

Replace the cap at least once a year. This is only a guess but what could have happened in your case is the cap had swelled and contacted the print head surface causing the ink to be wicked from the nozzles and created a siphon effect which caused the ink to flow to the waste ink bottle.
