There are some places that teach neon, but most of them are just introductory, meant to give an overview of the process and maybe you get to take home an art project. Really learning the craft is intensive and time consuming. I took a semester class in NYC and learned enough to know I didn't...
I started with Gerber and then added Corel, so those are what I'm used to and still use. Like has been said, it's kinda a personal preference thing, and once you start with one it's a little hard to switch.
Since it's a good temp for an install I would guess the glass is contaminated. As has been suggested clean thoroughly with alcohol (I've even had to use acetone on one window)
and test.
Thanks for the follow up. I don't remember if I saw the design when this was first posted, but it's pretty simple so my quote would have been much less.
And this looks like some high school kids did it. I can't tell what method was used, the edges look like spray cans and the center of the...
Thanks for the follow up.I I don't remember if I saw the design in the original post, but from these pics I wonder what they ended up paying. I can't tell what the method was, the edges look spray painted and the centers of the strokes look brushed. Al in all a pretty crappy looking design and...
Yea, it's not a great sample, and the fonts you guys have recommended are all pretty close. I'll just tell the client either get better artwork or accept a substitute.

That's a good idea. For me usually a defect like that is in the foil, probably binding a little. But if it happens with other foils I think redoing the artwork from scratch is worth a try.
House Painter, Cutting Cordwood, Car Wash, Farmhand, wanted to be a potter but one of the guys I studied with made his main living carving & lettering signs and he got me into it. Talked me into going to Butera Sign School in Boston in '74 and I've been in it ever since.
I don't know what equipment you have, but if it was me I'd be subbing it out to someone with a flatbed router and doing it on something like polystyrene. Have them printed gold and then they can add glitter.
Signs of the Times does an article every year about the industry trends including a survey of companies broken down by size, that might have the kind of info you're looking for. I always liked seeing what other companies gross per employee was.
I don't paint walls. I tell the client or their painter that I need something that vinyl can stick to and leave it up to them. If I had to paint a wall myself I'd use oil. If I absolutely had to use latex I'd ask my paint store what to use.
