  1. Is grimco down?

They are having 'network issues'. There should be a notice on the homepage.
  2. Considering Panel Saws

Keep your eyes open. Panel saws pop up for sale online all the time and they can go pretty cheap because most people either don't need them or don't have the space for one. They're just not the easiest thing to sell. We found a barely used Milwaukee 15 amp 8 foot panel saw w/ 8 foot extensions...
  3. Printable (Eco-Sol) Metallic Silver vinyl suggestions

I print on 3M 1080 metallic white aluminum a LOT! It's become the new 'upgrade' over white vinyl and people really love the look of it, myself included. I've tried printing on Oracal 751 and it printed horribly for me. Ink just pooled up on the surface and the resulting prints were just not...
  4. MDO Price Hike

So a $100 sheet of 1/2" painted MDO goes up 17%. Even if you do as much as a 100% markup on substrates, the cost of a 4' x 8' sign goes up $34. I really don't see the issue. And besides, how many MDO signs do you do? MDO makes up maybe 3% of the signs we put out. It might be different for you...
  5. Dry Erase Magnetics

That sounds about right. Thank you. I searched everywhere and only turned up 1, 2, and 3 mil thicknesses.
  6. Dry Erase Magnetics

I'm trying to match the specs of the magnet that they brought to me, rather than say "Here you go, this should work just as well...RIGHT?" Don't most people do this, or do you just substitute with whatever's clever and not worry about it? I mean, that would surely be much easier, but I try to...
  7. Dry Erase Magnetics

That it is but the laminate is thicker than 2 mil. Much thicker.
  8. Dry Erase Magnetics

So, after looking at my work order again, it says it is .038". Obviously, I need to work on my handwriting. This is definitely a thick laminate. It looks just like a Convex 12 mil laminate, but for dry erase use. So yeah, essentially I'm looking for a thick dry erase laminate, or so it would seem.
  9. Fiberglass sign manufacturer wanted

They will take aluminum if it's what we have to substitute the fiberglass with but would prefer the fiberglass like they've already been using for years. Trying to find a supplier that can produce 8" x 4" aluminum blanks to spec isn't an easy task either, apparently.
  10. Dry Erase Magnetics

This was already discussed with the client and this is one reason why I'm really not a big fan of dry erase jobs in general. He's going to let me know what type of markers and erasers they currently use so I can check compatibility.
  11. Fiberglass sign manufacturer wanted

The rather unfriendly guy on the phone says they come in 3/32" thickness in 4 x 8 sheets and they do not do any fabrication. I would have no problem making them in-house from raw material except they need radius corners, which I can not do. I asked and they absolutely want the radius corners.
  12. Dry Erase Magnetics

It's definitely printed. You can see the same silvering along the top edge of the green, not to mention I can't imagine anyone in their right mind putting vinyl lettering on a printed magnet unless perhaps if it was variable data, which this is not. I've generally seen this occurrence when a...
  13. Fiberglass sign manufacturer wanted

I've got a lead on some fiberglass signs that may pan out from a company called Accuform but I'm looking for any other leads that are available, if possible. A customer is requesting some 8" x 4" fiberglass signs, approximately 150 of them, each with a different letter/number on it. These...
  14. Dry Erase Magnetics

I am looking for some recommendations if anyone can offer any, for some dry erase magnetic signs. The customer brought in some that they are already using with great success and would like something similar to these, if possible. The only thing that I thought was odd, is that I'm only finding 2...
  15. Discussion Not exactly logo......................................

That layout. I think my eyes are bleeding. I actually thought maybe this was a joke. Guess not.
  16. Discussion Customers

I don't understand how jobs are almost going to print without design approval. Am I missing something here? Are you saying the customer does approve the design, but then throws another design revision at you after the fact anyway?
  17. Bonnet Stripes on tractors

I would assume to avoid banding when printing the halftones, which seems to be a fairly typical problem.
  18. Securing 3mm PVC to Painted Wood

I think the general consensus is that you should never use PVC under 1/2" thick for outdoor applications.
  19. First time acrylic letter install

You could do studs, flush studs, or combination mounts on a job like this. I love dimensional letter installations. They are pretty straight forward and simple to install. You have some great advice here. Gemini has tons of installation videos out there, probably still on Youtube, so I'd check...
  20. Solution for "magnetics", on aluminum trucks

GlassAPeel works alright as long as the surface doesn't have a compound curve. They aren't as durable as magnets but are considerably cheaper...
