  1. Plexiglas Standoff Signs w/ Frosted

DNA is okay on cast acrylic that is not flame polished. This is why flame polishing is generally a bad idea. If you sand and buff, you do not have to worry about cracking the acrylic.
  2. Plexiglas Standoff Signs w/ Frosted

Did you use the glossy side out? Kind of defeats the purpose of the material, doesn't it?
  3. CNC or Laser?

Industrial tags is way too vague. For a sign shop, I'd say a CNC Router is more valuable. It won't take that many cut letter projects to justify the cost. If you're looking to do smalls, the laser a more efficient machine in many regards. Setup and production is typically more straight forward
  4. They've Had 3 Years To Fix This (FEMA Wall)

The post is about FEMA and the idiot who installed/provided the letters. There is absolutely no reason to make this political. I'm about 85% sure those letters were installed with velcro right on the carpet. Velcro sticks great, but the letters can definitely drift and look funky. What...
  5. Custom aluminum field markers signs

Architects should not spec signs just like they shouldn't spec what type of kitchen cabinets you use. My experience is there are two ways to handle this job. 1. You start a dialog and figure out what they actually want. If you build a report with them to the point where they think "This...
  6. grainy yard signs

Contact your vendor. Tell them they didn't do a good job. Request a reprint or a refund.
  7. Project Management - Pricing

Typically it's a 60/40 markup on these types of projects. Higher cost projects, the split can favor the mfg more than the broker and shift to something like 70/30. Almost every time I lower my margin thinking I'm charging an unfair amount, I run into a problem which results in aggravation.

  9. customer needs a small pole pocket banner - reply is lol

I'd simply say something along the lines of: Hi, this is how we thought it should be done but we're happy to do it differently. If you'd like it done differently, please let us know specifically what you'd like done and we will send you a proof within XX hours. Please keep in mind included in...
  10. Where can I get a black PVC Post & Rail kit?

As far as I know, black pvc doesn't last well. That's why black sheet PVC isn't outdoor rated. So if you want black posts, you're going to need to paint.
  11. Dimensional Letters Outside - Thickness/Material?

Buy exterior grade PVC and you're good to go. Based on how beefy those letters are, going with 3/4" PVC would have it's benefits for not much more money.
  12. Lexel & VHB foam tape

Look into E6000. It's probably what you're looking for.
  13. Dimensional Letters Outside - Thickness/Material?

I wouldn't offer 1/4" thick letters. They'll look flat. I'd offer 1/2" thick or better. I'd probably use 3/4" or 1" PVC painted with exterior latex paint. It's just way more cost effective and an easier process if you have a CNC router.
  14. Need a material to stick to paver stones

Tell them to find an engraver/sandblaster to take care of the project.
  15. Zund polishing bit

I work with several people that specialize in acrylic. I can tell you that they all basically agree that flame polishing is their least favorite way to get a polished edge. They all either use a laser cutter, diamond polish discs/tools, or use a buffing wheel.
  16. Using Laser with Flexi

Chinese lasers typically go: Design Software -> Laser Software -> Laser. So you should absolutely be able to do your design work in Flexi (or any software really) and then import it into whatever Laser software Boss provides.
  17. I am stumped with this job

They want sunroom / solarium shades. Basically canvas shades that are inside and can be rolled up/removed as needed. Not something a sign shop would normally get involved with.
  18. Buying an old AXYZ

Generally speaking, the bearings/rails on those types of machines are standard, off the rack parts. As is most of the drive components. So if they wear, you should be able to do a like for like swap or something pretty similar. The electronics are the biggest issue in the CNC world. It's why...
  19. Just In Not really hand made..................

If you don't mind me asking, what did you end up charging for that project?
