  1. What's proper etiquette if a prospect sends you a competitor's proof for pricing?

It's about what you're buying. When you buy a logo, you're paying for the design time & the rights to use it. It's why when you shop for logo designers they specifically state that you're buying exclusive rights to the design. It's an industry standard deal but you also have to make sure...
  2. What's proper etiquette if a prospect sends you a competitor's proof for pricing?

    1. If someone walks in wanting a sign bid out with what I'd consider a concept drawing, I'd bid it out for the job. If they told me they wanted EXACTLY that, I'd tell them to bring me the artwork, we can work up something similar, or go back to whomever created the original artwork. It would...
  3. Question Where to get wholesale, precut Optix DA acrylic?

Contact your acrylic supplier and get a price quote for them to cut the sheet down to size. Then contact a local person with a 4x8 laser cutter (best tool for the job) or 4x8 CNC (slightly worse) and ask them for a price quote for the same task. Take the pricing and compare it to the cost and...
  4. Need Help Do you loose quality when scaling raster image in Illustrator

If you take 100dpi image in Illustrator and scale it down by 20x, the image is now 2000dpi. Now if you take that 2000dpi and print it while scaling it 20x, it will most likely look worse than if you scaled everything back up to 20x and then printed.
  5. Thought you had no money?

A surplus is always a funny thing. People make it sound like it's just schools, but private industry also has them. The Office did an episode which pretty much hit the nail on the head. Ultimately, the biggest problem is they need to setup some sort of system to prevent spending for the sake...
  6. Suppliers for Small Amount of Matthews Gold Paint?

MM has the worst adhesion on a paint I've ever experienced, bar none. When you go to peel the paint mask off on a V-carve sign, the gold paint that filled the letters come off with it. I've tried paint directly onto PVC (no primer). I've tried primer. I've tried putting an under coat. I've...
  7. 3D Raised Decals

I'm perplexed as to why there is a question. It's definitely made of PVC or silicone. Go online and type in "PVC Keychain". Here's a supplier I've worked with (but not for this product) http://pinbadgestore.com/product/product.php?lang=en&class2=126 If you google it, you can see how they're...
  8. 3D Raised Decals

So if they contacted you for a sign you don't make. You called up a supplier and had it made. Would they know? This product is an outsourced product from China. I'd be absolutely shocked if they made it in house. If they did, it's a hobbiest with a 3d printer spending 30 minutes of machine...
  9. 3D Raised Decals

100% made over seas. Probably PVC or silicone. They're are a bunch of suppliers out there. Wholesale is probably about $.50-1 each + setup fee of $75 + FedEx Express shipping (1-2 days typically) would be about $40-60.
  10. Suppliers for Small Amount of Matthews Gold Paint?

I have a project in the works and I've tried Modern Masters (hate it) and Nova Color (just satisfactory) gold paints. I'd like to go ahead and use the "industry standard" Matthews Brilliant Gold but I really don't want/need a gallon. Does anyone know where you can buy a pint or a quart?
  11. Artwork Proofing

I use the following methods. 1. Rasterize the Illustrator file (normally at 150ppi but this can be high for certain projects) and then print as a PDF. Printing as a PDF is key. Do not save as a PDF as the file will be much larger and include unnecessary information. 2. I've recently been...
  12. Don't you just love....?

I don't mind getting an estimate/quote/invoice from a customer on what they've previously gotten and the pricing. I find it a more open and honest practice. I'm far more hesitant to work with someone who wants a project done similar to what they've done in the past, they throw out a ballpark...
  13. Income Inequality

It's a shame those arguing "against" income inequality continue to not address the actual subject of income inequality. Blaming the poor, minorities, lazy, youth, globalization, and lack of religion is literally not addressing the question while also continues to spread propaganda. The numbers...
  14. Income Inequality

I'm going to make one more attempt to get the point across about income equality, not go off topic, and why everyone posting here should care about it, A LOT. Think of everyone you know. Your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, everyone. Statistically speaking, they're "all" essentially...
  15. Income Inequality

    1. Communism is not what Gino stated. Communism is the idea the government, and by extension the people, should own "everything" and because everything is communal, it can be more equitably distributed and used. Suggesting better wealth distribution is not communism. It's an American...
  16. Credit Card Rewards

I'd stay away from Capital One. Despite being a corporation and it being a corporate card, they still reported back to my personal credit score. We pay our bill in full every month, but this still made my credit score fluctuate quite a bit due to varying levels of utilization. It was very...
  17. Income Inequality

Except this is now how it works and not how human nature works. Not everyone can win. Not everyone can succeed. Not everyone can do well. McDonalds doesn't exist in its current form without people that are simply unsuccessful because they wouldn't have a work force. You simply have to...
  18. Income Inequality

This sums up the reality of the situation. People believe otherwise because there is some upward mobility in our country vs others where it is even more limited. The biggest thing people seem not to grasp about the income inequality discussion is people still continue to believe it's about...
  19. Income Inequality

    1. It's propaganda to suggest anyone can become rich/successful with hard work and dedication. Selling that idea is part of why we're here in this position. Is there some truth to it? Absolutely. Is it really true? No. There's a plethora of statistics that show upward mobility is quite...
  20. Income Inequality

You remove the fairness doctrine, buy media stations, spread lies and misinformation, and corrupt the minds of millions of people to vote against their interests. Certain groups and people have been trying to exploit and destroy our systems for years and years in order to benefit a select few...
