  1. Are there any small solvent machines?

Have an idea around something I'd like to do, but I'd basically just be running 15" material at the most. Any smaller systems?
  2. Falcon Jr. suddenly decides to do weird stuff...

Nope - media was maybe a quarter inch from end of the roll holder thingie - but that was enough that it didn't register...
  3. Best software for catalog layout?

Hmmm... Be interesting... Do any of the online store packages export to a paper catalog format? Or vice-versa?
  4. Falcon Jr. suddenly decides to do weird stuff...

DOH - figured it out - didn't have the roll all the way stuffed on the roll holder (BTW, does anyone sell extras?), and was basically getting a "Well, I guess you're feeding me sheets - can't you do any better?" kind of attitude. I guess I are stupid. Kin I haz cheezburger nao?
  5. Falcon Jr. suddenly decides to do weird stuff...

Okay - it's always loaded media by advancing a little, checking the edges, and then that's more or less it. Now the sucker's spooling out about 6' or so, then reeling it back - and since the reel-back bit doesn't have a motorized takeup, I've gotta help it. The shift-advance/rewind control...
  6. Best software for catalog layout?

Another suggestion: I'm guessing you're used to "signs" and single-page type of layouts... If that is the case, you may want to sub this out to someone who has done it before (or be prepared to take longer than you'd like on the job). Large-document production is a whole 'nother world...
  7. profile ?

We are supposed to be communicators. It helps to know the basic tools. Your profile will install in Production Manager - I'm currently working (in between a buncha other things) on collecting info for a directory.
  8. Best software for catalog layout?

I've got Quark and InDesign... I'd probably go with InDesign... I think that Ventura is actually also still lurking around there somewhere... Be nice if the Mormons would get it going again...
  9. Price/Performance value

IMHO, you need to go with John M... Why? That raid setup will really increase thruput on anything with a lot of disk activity, like big graphics seem to require. 250 gigs may not sound like much, but if you have more than 100 or so gigs of data on your primary machine, you've got too much -...
  10. Just bought a nice cutting mat from Jack D....

Any hints as to de-memorying it when I take it from the box later today and slap it down on my new 4x8 table?
  11. Opinion/Price on Encad Printers

Well, I flogged heck out of a Novajet Pro (36") for a few years... Gotta use a RIP to get decent color, and it was still an indoor printer.
  12. Opinion/Price on Encad Printers

Who ran the auction? Was it that bird-kinda outfit?
  13. Are all eps. files created equal?

Send me one, lemme take a look at it. bogie@creativeaccuracy.com
  14. USB SuperBooster

I'm getting ready to make a "printer island." It's gonna run off an old P4, with a tad-bit of RAM/hard drive. Just be shared devices. I can hang a few things off of a $100 computer, and target them via the network, or I can mess with all sorts of weird printer-specific network stuff. Also...
  15. Daige EZ Glide Laminator?

Bumpage, folks... What do you think?
  16. Obsolete Hard drive

Why not... I remember in the dark ages, we could set up virtual drives in RAM... You know - that 384K that we couldn't use between the 640K that Gates gave us, and the 1024 that we actually had paid for? In fact, I knew folks who were running 8 megabyte "cache drives" on their 286 machines...
  17. Myths, Magic Bullets and Easy Buttons

What I learned early on was that one needs to learn the capabilities, and limitations, of one's equipment, and then work within that. In addition, with learning about how "signs" works, as opposed to just printing on various papers, I'm learning about a WIDE variety of substrates. This is...
  18. Flexi investment...

Right - you're gonna need Corel or Illustrator regardless. And if all you are doing is cutting, the interface that is supplied FREE OF CHARGE with the cutter will work fine. If you need something more after you've used that for a while, fine. You're looking for bang for buck at this...
  19. Flexi investment...

Yeah, but the does the guy NEED to invest the money? He's got a cutter. He's got the software that CAME with the cutter (adequate to run it). He is gonna need Corel and/or Illustrator anyway. Flexi adds a _little_ to the mix, but not a great deal. Think of it this way... When you're trying...
  20. Flexi investment...

Are you looking to print/cut, or just to cut? Print/Cut, then I could see getting Cocut or Flexi... (and you likely don't need the full-blown version of Flexi either - but your dealer WILL sell it it you...). If you're just cutting, try the stuff that comes with the plotter. If the 7000 is...
