Do you have a photo of what you are redoing? Is it a shaped sign so there's a good reason to redo rather than replace? If you are worried about the background paint, why not have it sprayed painted by an auto body shop.

I do like Rick's bar that connects the J and B better as the transition is smoother. When blending letters together it helps make it look more cohesive and intentional rather than just put together by computer. Overall it is nice. I love a logo done with just type and without all the junk...

When you pull the end retainer, does the acrylic look like it was cut with some slack? Not sure how cold it is where you are but we have some faces that are frozen in the retainer, could that be why it's hard to pull out? If not, it might be that they didn't under cut the acrylic so it slides...
