  1. Can Head Soaks Create Problems? Is There A Downside?

You should be fine letting it soak as long as needed. Back in 2004, we had several extended power outages during back to back hurricanes here in south Florida. As a precaution, I advised the soak procedure for a customer who was concerned, as she used MegaInk, which was very quick to dry. We set...
  2. Need Help SP300V cut strip

Google "Roland SP-300V cutter protection strip". A number of links come up, just have to see who has them in stock. Should be less than $20.
  3. SP-300V Wiper Motor Replacement/Grinding Sound

Are the black wipers you are using Roland OEM wipers? If not, I suggest you try them and see if the issue goes away. The older Roland wiper system is finicky about wiper stiffness. I'm not a big fan of the OEM wipers, but it will certainly confirm if stiff wipers are the problem. If that fixes...
  4. Roland VS Cyan overspray (FIXED) Thanks Jim Hancock

The problem was a bad cyan channel on the print head causing overspray. New head, good to go...
  5. Need Help Another Royal Sovereign Laminator Problem :)

Should have specified the obvious, that you look for up & down movement as shown in pic, is while running the machine (no lamination needed).
  6. Need Help Another Royal Sovereign Laminator Problem :)

That pressure should be ok. I think I adjusted to 15 with the pressure lever in the "vinyl" slot. It's been while.
  7. Need Help Another Royal Sovereign Laminator Problem :)

Royal Sovereign uses crowned rollers, so you will get a pressure differential between the ends and the middle. Check to see if the rollers are out of round by laying something rigid across the roller. See attached pic. The Royal Sovereigns can drive you crazy.
  8. Need Help Edge lifting on 3M IJ180 during printing

The machine is kept very clean by the operator, including the platen, grit roller and pinch rollers. They are running the 3M on their VG-640 today to see if they have the same issue. Right now, I'm leaning towards the left pinch roller being worn more than the right roller. As the 3M is thinner...
  9. Need Help Edge lifting on 3M IJ180 during printing

I have a customer who is having a strange issue. He is running a Roland XR640 with OEM ink. After the print has gone a few feet, it starts to ripple up only on the left side and eventually leads to a head strike, BUT only on 3M IJ180. I have tried various temperatures, 35 up to 50 degrees...
  10. VS540 pinch roller replacement

You should be good to go, then! A suggestion on installing the new pinch roller. There are washers on either side of the roller. If you put a tiny bit of grease on the washer, it will stick to the roller, making it much easier to align and get the roller shaft through the pinch roller and both...
  11. VS540 pinch roller replacement

There should be a colored dot on one side of the pinch roller. This dot is on the high side of the roller and should go to the outside. It is highly recommended you replace both outside rollers at the same time. If one of the outer rollers is more worn then the other, you can start to getting...
  12. Question How do I get rid of Wiper Replace notice when starting printer?

See attached... when finished, the message should be gone.
  13. Need Help HELP WITH LAMINATION ROLLERS

The wrinkling of lamination on one side could be a difference in the pressure from one side to the other. I have recently added laminators to the machines I work on and have learned they are sensitive to these side to side pressures. I use a very thin steel shim I got from Royal Sovereign that I...
  14. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

Hi Mike, The ribbon swapping shown above is exactly what I had him do. Blown fuse for the M/Y channel. He's getting the board to me to replace the fuse (solder on type) and check the transistors. I will save the pic, as it shows things much better than words, you know the cliché... Thanks for...
  15. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

Sorry for the confusion on the ribbons, long day yesterday troubleshooting an old Mimaki JV3 I am resurrecting. To be clear, this is what I wanted to say. First, you want to do a test print with the ribbons in the correct position, i.e., as normal. Then shut down, unplug, and connect the...
  16. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

I live in Delray Beach. What you did - the ribbon swapping - is the correct procedure to diagnose a good or bad head. I am presuming when you swapped ribbons, you moved left side to left side, etc. It would appear you have a bad head. But you need to check the board to be sure. The easiest way...
  17. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

See attached pic for fuse location for print heads. One of them is probably blown. They are most likely soldered onto the board. There is also the possibility you have a blown output transistor. FYI, I have a PCB rework station and repair these boards to a certain level, i.e., fuses and output...
  18. Roland VG 540 Scan motor error 0020 0020

Sent you a pdf on how to tighten drive belt. Do in increments at a time until the "hesitation" noise stops and the head carriage seems to stop and reverse direction smoothly.
  19. Roland VG 540 Scan motor error 0020 0020

Can't grease the motor and DON'T grease the belt.
  20. Roland VG 540 Scan motor error 0020 0020

Does the drive belt feel reasonably tight?
