I kind of agree with Joe above- the vinyl is turned by the sprockets, the foil is turned also - and presses on the vinyl, and the platen kind of "floats" along. I think I had a machine a while ago that the rubber O-rings were decayed.

- yes, the drum on the plotter may fail. Keep the printer covered and clean and should serve you well. Also - try using just the blue dongle on the software- I have never seen two dongles plugged into each other.

Yes that roller does degrade over time. As for the shocks- I use one of these to mount new ones - it compresses the shock so you can mount it. No- I can operate composer with the machines off.

What is the resolution of your scale? sounds like two places - .01gram? A scale with .01g resolution would give you the most dependable / repeatable results. (I have seven years experience in the lab scale industry)..

Cool - yes the gerber plotter cable only uses those pins. Looks like you are on the right track! The Edge model you have is an LE- its old but pretty reliable. Also clean the silver rails on the plotter, and put some light oil on them - such as 3 in 1.

Did you remove the dancer bar, and foil squeegee, and check the head connections? Also remove the left side cover, and re-seat upper and lower board connections?
