personally I wouldn't use a laptop for running a printer, would use a desktop. Easier to upgrade if needed. We keep all files on a central server(All files backed up to a separate server), separate RIP station running 2 printers, and the RIP loaded onto a design PC just in case something happens...

Agree with Gino... Windex is a big no no. It leaves a film on the glass (as you see all the streaks). Chaz

I know a few companies here that have one of their slitters and have had it for years and years and it still runs...

Cheap media/laminate used for the print as well... If the laminate doesn't have UV inhibitors the sun just destroys prints. Chaz

Agree with Bigdawg... why would you use the Ultraboard? Reverse print to clear or optically clear vinyl, laminate with opaque white, attached acrylic to wall with standoffs... simple simple and very clean looking. Chaz

What media are you using? If it has a clear liner try putting small white vinyl squares on the liner side under the registration marks. With our Summa sometimes this happens and it wont read. You may need to re-calibrate to the white on the back of the liner but it should work... For us its the...

But if the RIP is processing the file correctly, shows preview correctly, doesn't spit out any errors and places job in the buffered jobs area after (thinks the print completed successfully) then it wouldn't be the RIP... Yeah I have no idea either... Onyx has no idea either other than the RIP...

So just deleted the effect out of the file completely and still have the same issue... printer starts up then printer resetting... Now I'm really confused. Chaz

when you apply the effect it rasterizes automatically. I will give it a shot and see though... but I shrunk the size and printed it printed fine so I'm not sure why it would be the effect... Chaz

Now here's another wrench to throw in the problem. I took that same file, sized down to 48" high proportionately, saved, RIP'd, and BAM! it printed no issues.... now its really messing with me! Chaz

We use the Avery here and don't have issues with it. Will stand up as well as 3M here.. we have harsh cold winters and it holds up. Typically will use 3M unless they don't have the colour. Chaz

Running Illustrator CS6. There shouldn't be any clipping masks... It is a simple rectangle with a spot gradient and an effect. When I open the PDF that I attached in Illustrator I don't get any clipping masks which is weird. Chaz

So I have a weird problem. This is the first time its ever happened and I've printed this type of file before (the pattern in the file not the file type). Its a very simple gradient of a spot colour (50"w x 110"h white - Labelled Spot1) with an effect in which Onyx (10.2.5) renders correctly...
