P.s - there's a ton of tools that may make your job easier. Yello tools is filled with hundreds of awesome ideas. We've bought a dozen... A few we use a lot a few we don't. I know I just suggested a few.... But take it with a grain of salt  otherwise you'll be like us with a 30lb tool...
The ol cut before or after debate.
A window may be square, but 9 put of 10 times its seal is not. Our customers like us going right to the seal so there's no edges at all... We cut at an angle between the seal and the window for one client. It's risky because you can, and probably will knick...
This is an end user..not a printer, that's why it cost a lot.
I imagine it's uv or flatbed. Your only hope is to call the company and explain the issue... 9/10 times they will redo it for you, especially if it's a local company. The cost you paid for was time to setup and print these... The...
The thicker the backer the better for perf cuts.
Hps just a rebranded sums...so it should be fine. I haven't used summa so I can't tell you what settings work best. Graphtec allows you to choose the cut line pattern... I imagine summa also does, so I'd play with that.
Perf cutting is an art...
You say it's not your cutter.... But it could be. What brand is it?
We contour cut on all then materials with zero problems. We use a graphtec - if your using a cheap $500 Chinese cutter,It could have uneven surfaces.
Have you changed your blade at all in the 20 months you've been around? A...
It's best to use pantone colors, not CMYK Values when printing. My printer will print 0/80/97/0 different than your printer will.
That said... It's obvious thats an orange, so if the print shop you used printed it and it was printed as a red... it should be on them to send you a new...
I agree the inks probably fine to use... However hp logs if you use expired or non hp ink. If your still under warranty that may be a problem... Not sure how strict they are about it though.
We mostly do work for municipalities and government, our area they always spec 3M products pretty much exclusively. We don't use much Avery...just a few random colors of their cut vinyl, or when the product makes sense and we can convince people to make the switch.
The 6060 would be nice... but...
We overlam all ours. Whether it's solvent or latex or uv...the ink type doesn't matter, most places tend to use industrial cleaners to clean their windows.... Last thing you want is a big smear because someone's using a strong chemical that'll erase graphics.
If this is your first time doing...
Its getting harder and harder to get other sizes. It's like companies want to standardize to one size...
3ms cut vinyl... 7720, 7715 series only comes in 48" now. The black is available in 24,30,48,60 still... But even white they want a custom fee to order in 24" or 30" rolls. They Wanted $955...
It varries. The glue becomes really gummy since all the solvent leaks to the glue.. so if it's for a vehicle wrap it's a pain in the ass.
Because the solvent goes into the glue... It can cause premature failure by peeling / falling off. And in rarer occasions it can cause bubbling through...
Most hair and dust from laminating is due to static...which mostly happens when laminating, not as much as when your printing. It'll grab a hair from a ft away and cling it to the media. Having a fan blowing on the media should not have any effect on dust / hair, unless you have piles of it...
Your supposed to let it sit loosely wound after it's printed. Does that mean let itnhang off a rack?... No.. it just means don't tighten it as tight as you can and tape it shut so it stays tight.
If your prints aren't failing, why change anything? I'm not a fan of solvent because of the...
Ij40 + 8048 is a decent calendered. Avery makes a decent one... I'd stay away from brightline, it may be good but you never know how house vinyl is. Some brightline is ok, but we'd only ever use it for temp stuff or real estate.
For cast I'd use 180 +8518... It's double price, but unless the...
Everything changes. I bet when you guys were hand painting signs and cutting vinyl out with projectors you never thought a graphtec could do your job in 5 seconds, or a printer could print 1000 different colors by the time your done mixing one.
In 10,20 years time we'll look back at our old...
Yes. Monomeric is good for under a year... Poly is good for 4. Anything higher than 4 and we use a cast. We put some ij40 on our vehicle wrap and it's been out facing the sun for 3 years so far and it looks just as good as day one. Polymeric is great... I wouldn't use it on something super...
Depends if it's facing the sun, where your located... Etc.
Is it going up high? Will customers be looking at it closely?
If you're using cheap vinyl... Are you using cheap overlaminate? Does it have UV protection in it? If not it won't last 5 years.
Will shrinkage make the sign look bad? Odds...
We promise a 7 day turn around once something is approved. Including simple print edsigns... That gives us some leisure room.
If the customer needs it right away... It goes to the front, whether it's a single coro real estate sign or something else. If we have to put overtime to make it...
Also to note... If you do do a "Replacement" and re-fill the ink lines... Don't worry if half your nozzles go missing, thats just air in the line... doing a few purges and printing a few ft fixes it. It scared the crap out of me when I did it and half of them were missing... I thought I broke...
Do you shake your ink boxes? And is one... likely the blue running low?
We had an issue where blue dropped out on us... Then all of a sudden everything blue turned purple. It turned out the printer sucked up some of the bottom, unshakened ink, and the color was off... Doing purges wont fix, We...
