  1. Dry time before cutting?

We do runs of a certain label for a customer that's maybe 2.5" x 5", full bleed, on calendered film that doesn't get laminated. We run a few hundred at a time and set the dry time to 5-10 mins or so before it comes back to cut. We'll turn the heat off while it's drying, and most of the time it...
  2. Bad prints

Although I agree this might apply to 651, I've found Avery 700/750 prints quite nice on the Edge. Definitely not as good as 220, but still works well. Just sayin'!
  3. Asking for opinions...drop trowel & show me yours

On a somewhat related note.....has anyone played around with Oracal's new proslide wrap media yet? Sounds promising, and is competitively priced against 3M bundles.
  4. Thicker decal material for edge 2

It's probably been 10 years since we've used Quantum but you could always check out Avery 750 or Oracal 651, both are priced well. Regarding your question(s), if you're looking for a thicker finished product (remember, thicker isn't always better) you can always get rolls of laminate slit down...
  5. Onyx newbie

We're you able to use the barcodes to get your Summa to cut everything automatically? Or did you have to send down each cut file manually? We have a Summa S140T and was talking to our supplier's tech yesterday and he was telling me about this. Ours doesn't have OPOS-CAM so I had assumed...
  6. Onyx newbie

Thanks, this is good to know. We use the custom sheet sizes for the flatbed but didn't think of using it for roll to roll. While we're talking Onyx tips and tricks..... does anyone know if it's possible to print & cut in one step on Roland from Onyx? It's a simple step in Versaworks but I...
  7. XR-640 is out of Warranty - should I switch to 3rd party inks?

Interesting. This is the first time I've ever heard this about Nazdar inks. How many printers have you seen this happen to? What kind of printers, new/old, light/heavy use.....etc. Not that it changes your point, but the cost savings are substantially more... we're paying $88CDN (Nazdar)...
  8. Onyx overprint

In onyx I believe it's done when editing your quick sets. There is a setting where you can edit your layers and/or toggle overprints. I'm not in front of that computer so that might not be 100% accurate but hopefully close.
  9. New Guy Suggested Equipment for Specific Job

Not sure that your background will apply much, will all due respect. I can't say I know much about the scrap metal business, and perhaps my view is biased from the grubby trucks and yards in our city, but I just can't see justifying opening a print department for something like that. Anyways...
  10. New Guy Suggested Equipment for Specific Job

Welcome to Signs 101. Good luck with your search, I think you'll find that you're better off finding a better print partner to work with rather than trying to become a printer yourself. Not to sound condescending, but I'm sure your time and efforts are better spent running the scrap metal...
  11. Discussion US Cutter laserpoint and Titan and Customer Service

    Kind of a jacka$$ aren't cha?
  12. Premium calendar vinyl or cast vinyl

Anything that goes on vehicles, we use 3M IJ180cv3 w/ 8518 lam. We used to use Avery 2923EZ w/ Oraguard 210 gloss at first (before we knew better) but have since switched to cast only to eliminate the risk of failures/shrinkage. For temporary graphics you can still get away with calendared...
  13. Nazdar 2000 Inks Series for Roland

We're using Nazdar on our Rolands and love it. Slightly different smell and finish but no real issues with color shifts from OEM. Definitely don't miss paying the high prices for OEM inks!
  14. Discussion Any money in feather flags???

I've wondered the same thing before. The only thing that I can think of is that the companies that are big enough to offer feather flags at those low prices are running huge volume which allows them to batch print these things all day long and have more buying power so they're paying less for...
  15. US Made Digitech Trufire printer

Damn, that's fast. Look at the size of those passes!
  16. Need Help Cut ACM twisting....

This. We get ACM cut from our vendor all the time (on an actual cnc table saw) and they're perfectly flat. Edges sometimes need a bit of cleaning up but they're definitely not warped. I do know what you mean though, but this only happens whenever we cut ACM on our sheet cutter. Definitely...
  17. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

Hey it's never too early for stripper jokes.......
  18. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

"But she has a really nice personality..............!"
  19. Supplier/Price of Flexcon BusMark 5800 in Canada

You're welcome. How did you make out? Do we have a distributor up here in Canada or is it best to buy direct from Flexcon?
  20. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

Any updates on this? OP hasn't responded since Friday. Hopefully he's not up on lift right now struggling with those damn prints. Personally I wouldn't touch this for ANY amount of money. I don't even like installing other people's graphics on flat walls.
