  1. Returned check charges....WOW!

My ex used to do this all the time. She'd use her debit card for everything, and frequently overdraw her account (we had separate accounts, largely because of this!). She'd go to Circle K and buy a coffee for $1.50 and it'd end up costing her almost $40. I never could quite get through to her...
  2. PT Cruiser never again.

Looks like that line right in the body groove would've been fun to install!
  3. crappy cuts on little letters

Can you post a picture of what you're getting? We may be able to better diagnose the problem if we can see exactly what's going on.
  4. Tricks for wrapping without removing door handles and mirrors

Tristan is spot on. We take off what it makes sense to take off. That said, we do a lot of horizontal panels. When doing this, it makes a heckuva lot of sense to take off mirrors. Door handles are no big deal (heck, most get wrapped), but easily removed taillights, mirrors, antennas...
  5. Roland SJ-740

Sounds like a decent price, but make sure you have someone who can service it for you. We have a 74" Roland also and have found that there are some static issues unless you keep the humidity high--50%-60%.
  6. SP-300i Print/Cut Misalignment

Ahh.. tiling. I HATE Versaworks for tiling. I'd setup the tiling myself in your design program. That's going to be your best bet, just create two separate shapes with the overlap that will fit nicely on your media and print as two separate jobs. I'd be willing to be that something funky...
  7. Anyone have any thoughts? Bad media?

It looks to me like you're printing cold. Can you turn the heat up from the control panel and verify that the platen is supposed to be hot?
  8. Matte Lamin on Perf

We use a "mild solvent" ink. MLD from Triangle. Very similar to EcoSol.
  9. SP-300i Print/Cut Misalignment

Seriously doubt it's an encoder strip issue. Encoder strip errors will usually result in stair stepping in the print, and errors coming up in the printer itself. Is <center on media> selected? This is a common cause of this problem. I assume that you verified that the cutpath is in the...
  10. Eco-Solvent Ink curing - especially on banners.

Ultraflex is king for banners. For literally two cents a foot, why use anything else?
  11. Matte Lamin on Perf

We've never had an issue. We have LOTS of perf installed, and see it all the time. Still looks good. Ages range from brand new to about three years old.
  12. Contour Cut after laminating

You actually don't create the crop marks in Illustrator. In Versaworks, you simply click on the <marks> tab, and tell it to print "printers crop marks". Then you go to <cutter controls> and click on "print only". Print your file, laminate, and reload the vinyl with the leading set of crop...
  13. Printed banner pricing..and another ?..

The biggest issue (there are many, but this is the MAIN problem) is that people in this thread are viewing their product as a commodity. Why sell printed banners for more than cut? Because they have more value (given you design them correctly). I understand the mentality you are using...
  14. Matte Lamin on Perf

Don't even bother with lam. If you use matte, it will be totally blurred from the inside.
  15. * Need to find true black ink *

You're modifying camera images with a computer. How is this any representation of what's in the ink? If you're serious about color, get your machine profiled. Professionally.
  16. * Need to find true black ink *

Absolutely, 100% a profiling issue. Not ink. Very easy way to demonstrate this, as it appears you're using a Roland: Use the RolandCOLOR spot colors. You can print the spectrum from white to black using the BK01A-BK21A series, and achieve an array of true grays, using nothing but...
  17. Check from scammer PART 2

Did you ever get anything else from him Pat?
  18. Bumping Heads w/ the Internet

I was in the middle of invoicing some pretty large orders the other day, and our receptionist came in my office. She showed me a business card--4/0 with gold foil & embossed. Said there was a guy out front that wanted to know if we could do these for $60. She thought it was hilarious when I...
  19. What do you charge for design work?

We typically include some design time with the product. If things get excessive, we nudge the client along with discussion of design fees. We charge $75 an hour. Logo packages start at $300 for very basic, and go up to $1500.
  20. Sign-mart LOUSY CSR + PRODUCTS

    Uhh.. wha?
