Here is the only close up I could find of my gilding. I use Duna's Corafoam 15 pound HDU. I was using some other stuff but found it too coarse to get a good looking surface. These letters were hand carved so they were very smooth to start with. I sanded them lightly with 320 grit then primed...
Here's another recent one. This one is about 6 feet wide. The body is built up wood and Alupanel with HDU oval panels glued on. The post are a bit unusual in that they are not square. I needed the post to fit between the ovals but a 4" post looked too thin for the sign. So I just made them 6"...

The "Willowdale" font is ghostbusters BTW. (you have to change out the "O's".)

I have a job that needs posts and concrete and it's paved to boot... too bad it's minus 8 and the ground is starting to freeze. Not sure...
N'other one done. The thing is 8 x 5 feet, single sided. The main structure is 2 x 4 pressure treated lumba with Alupanel skins. The lettered bit is 1" HDU glued on to the main panel. It's a pretty shade of orangy coral red but it took 9 coats to cover. One of those things that I kept thinking...
Nothing surprises me any more. Two teens set fire to a homeless man here last week. Poured gas on him while he was sleeping in the bus shelter. Small town of 2500 people.
