  1. Cheap budget logo design critique

Right. I don't think you would need a very loose definition of "logo" for that to qualify. +1 on Jill's comment about the ribbon
  2. Cheap budget logo design critique

Where did you get the illustration from then? I do believe most stock image licenses prohibit being used in a logo. As for critique, it's way better than a lot of designs I've seen on here, but it does look like a bunch of mismatched stock images put together. What sticks out the most to me is...
  3. Tradeshow popup panels

A simpler solution would be to draw several artboards edge-to-edge, then turn bleeds on, then you have a template that you can just drop the file on and save as PDF. Your PDF will have one page for each panel, with bleeds. Way easier than mucking around with clipping masks and saving to separate...
  4. Overlap Question

I could be mistaken, but I don't think highway signs have overlapping vinyl seams. Here in Canada at least, the big green signs are made from several smaller panels of aluminum, which eliminates the need to seam the vinyl. Back on topic though, I'm not sure how much a seam on reflective would...
  5. Letterpress Font/Blocks - Anything Similar?

So the name of the font was on the original image? Good choice of avatar, OP.
  6. Is Avery T-1500 reflective vinyl any good?

Avery's T-1500 is designed for non-essential traffic signs. It's not designed for vehicles at all, as far as I'm aware. If you need it to last 5 years then you should get something that's designed for vehicles and is rated for at least 5 years. Oracal 5600 is designed specifically for fleet...
  7. Logo Design Critique

Umm, no. I think you're confusing the Swiss flag (white on red) with the Red Cross (red on white). It's also worth mentioning that depending what country the business is in, there could be very serious consequences for using the Red Cross symbol in a company logo, as it is not only trademarked...
  8. Logo Design Critique

Looks pretty good, but a couple of pointers: Red cross proportions look a bit uneven First font suits the business (looks high-tech), second font does not. Slab serif tends to be slightly more modern looking than serif but neither are typically a good choice for a tech company.
  9. For critique

I agree with your wife's comments on the middle one - the character overlapping on the text does hinder the readability. I would definitely go with the left one. Also "Good Tidings" is stretched a bit too tall.
  10. Signs on Crowd Control Barricades

Another option would be to print fabric/banner covers for the barricades. One large banner that folds over the top of the barricade, with velcro down the sides. That would allow for much larger advertising.
  11. Laminate scrimm

+1 we only stock matte banner material for printing on our Roland. Gloss doesn't dry fast enough. You may also have issues with drying time if you're using 3rd party inks or if you're using the cheapest brand of banner material you can get your hands on.
  12. Looking for a transparent styrene?

Our supplier doesn't stock acrylic or polycarbonate thinner than .060" but there's another clear plastic called polyester PETG that you could try (.020-.060 thickness). The cost is also much lower than acrylic/polycarbonate.
  13. Clipping Mask, Compound mask

Just double click to isolate the compound path, then you can resize each box individually without breaking up your clipping mask. If you're trying to do a mockup of an image spanning across multiple window panes, like Wayne suggested, another easy way is to just make one clipping mask the size...
  14. using plexi/acrylic over alumalite

In my experience, even two pieces of acrylic sandwiched together will get moisture trapped in between. If the signs are exposed you'll probably have this issue.
  15. Applying textl to a Curved Surface

Warp > Arc in Illustrator. If you're like me and you can solve basic math problems but you don't remember all the geometry formulas from high school, try this calculator for cones to figure out the *S* angle of the bucket. 50% on the Arc tool is 90 degrees and 100% is 180 degrees...
  16. Gerber AVANT EXTRA BOLD substitute

Zeroes are supposed to be squashed in AvantGarde. Gerber got it wrong. It's so you can tell the difference between a zero and a capital 'O'. Most fonts are designed that way.
  17. Logo Feedback

If you pay attention to typography a lot, you'll notice that good designers tend to avoid fonts that are pre-installed on every computer. It makes the difference between an amateur-looking design and a professional one. There are exceptions to this rule but they are few and far between. I would...
  18. Customers are so ignorant...

Lexan is supposedly more shatter-resistant than acrylic, but I've had way more Lexan sheets where big chunks broke off while cutting with the panel saw.
  19. Serif and brush font ID

Got Tiger Rag for the script. I know the other one (QM) is a pretty common font but can't recall the name.
  20. Serif and brush font ID

Anyone recognize either of these fonts?
