  3. What smartphone apps can't you live without?

I use my new windows phone 7 as a mp3 player most of the time, then a phone. Everything on this phone links up with facebook, so I'm constantly updated on all of that. I like that Everyone's facebook profile pic also acts as their profile pic on my phone. After that I use it as my camera and I...

  5. uh oh!

Like someone else pointed out, that is reflective... actually that is high intensity reflective. They want the reflective to shine through. We did our wayfinding signs here in town and did the same thing, but with better products apparently (or we remembered to take the protective film off of...

You know it kind of looks like someone forgot to remove the protective film on the substrate.
  7. what would you pay for this line drawing

Whether you charge by the hour or not, I have found that most customers can wrap their heads around that concept a little bit better then anything else. But that is not to say you should charge by the hour. What we do is make a little booklet of designs that we have done in the past and...
  8. I'm in such a rut here....

Just so there is no misunderstanding, I never said that a small business can't have a "clean" design. In fact, much of what I said is very similar to the rest of your statement about knowing what is right for the client. What I did say is not ALL logos need be "simple" and devoid of imagery...
  9. I'm in such a rut here....

A logo needs to be simple? says who? A simple logo needs to be simple, but I have seen many complex yet still easy to read effective logos that have a lot of appeal and leaves a huge impact. Don't limit yourself to ideas like this. Think outside the box. Do what is right for the client...
  10. Backseat Designing/Sign-Making Mondays.

Oh oh!!!. One more thing to add, they point their finger and touch my monitor, to tell me where something goes, the price goes up 15%.
  11. Backseat Designing/Sign-Making Mondays.

Ohhh I had a few more ideas... We should make a form that they would fill out, saying that we aren't responsible for any side effects that would result from the customers decisions. Then film the whole day, archive it and post them online.... for "industry research".:Big Laugh Then try to...
  12. Backseat Designing/Sign-Making Mondays.

So for what ever reason, for the past month or two, I can't win. Customer comes in with a terrible design, and asks us to update their image. We ask: "can we start over with this logo?" They respond: "Yes". We do a new designs, sometimes using elements that are worth saving from the old...

  15. Closing paths

Take all of the contours, combine them, then select your shape tool (F10), draw a box around the shapes you want to fix, then select the "close curve" button from your top toolbar. Then if you need to, you can just break apart the combined shape. I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for?
  16. Lost my job, what next?

Oh man that sucks Rodi. Sorry to hear about that. The way you describe your former employers, it sounds like it may have been a blessing in disguise though. Good luck!
  17. Turn off the preview in X5?

    bump?
  18. Turn off the preview in X5?

Does anyone know how to turn off the preview when you are exporting bitmaps in coreldraw X5. I have a feeling if I could have that shut off by default It would shave some time off of exporting images. Exporting images take twice as long as it did in X3, if not longer. Every-time I make a...
  19. The "How's Business" thread

I've been thinking about adding "sorry for the wait" to my email signature, if that tells you anything. It is unusually busy for this time of the year. The economy seems to have bounced back in our neck of the woods. People aren't afraid to spend some dough.
