  1. New to the cutting world - need help please

Graphtec's Cutting Master is an Illustrator plug-in for the Mac. I've been running it for years. You will need Illustrator however which may be an issue as they're on a subscription program now. If you can find someone with a slightly older copy however, you can download Cutting Master free from...
  2. Edge 2-- Vinyl slipping off sprockets

Rarely, but occasionally, we have gotten a roll of vinyl that has been punched incorrectly and will literally roll right up the sprockets. I had a roll of PermaGrip last week that had a repetitive bad punch for the first 6'or so of the roll. If you folded it over and lined it up with a good...
  3. How should I buy my next latex printer from?

I would give Advantage Sign Supply in Grand Rapids, MI a shot at it also. Ask for Bryan Koets.
  4. Mac with designjet 5500 installation problem

If the 5500 isn't the postscript version you will need a RIP. (raster image processor) to print and you will need all of the empty ink cartridges replaced. THis was a very good printer, I ran one for many years, but it's OLD and unless they are giving it to you for nothing I would walk away...
  5. Do printheads wear out

On smaller barcodes I've found that if you rotate them 15° or so, they'll print much cleaner and more accurately. When your looking at those thinner lines and spaces it can make a huge difference because printhead array itself. Depending on where the line hits you could be printing it with one...
  6. I'm a newbie and need help. Mac computer with a Roland CM-24

Crakd, Are you a MacImprint user or running your Edge on the pc side of things? I've been running MI on an old G4 since 99 and it's still going strong. I have to admit that I am running low on G4's. There's not allot of them to be had anymore.
  7. L26500 Carriage Rail Oiling

Definitely a firmware issue. Once HP figured it out and I updated it the issue totally disappeared.
  8. Letters Not cutting Cleanly on CE5000-60

On another note, I have had bad blade holders also. I actually purchased one of the old Graphtec holders with the brass tip like my original one from 1988. Spend allot of time with tech support until I bought the brass one. Once I returned the plastic one and they tested it they did credit me...
  9. Letters Not cutting Cleanly on CE5000-60

It looks like you have "pen" chosen instead of one of the knife options. Or, like they said, your offset is way off.
  10. Reflective Window Perf

Gerber used to make a Gerbervision Reflective for the Edge. It worked well with the transparent foils and I used it for a couple of jobs that were a success both in look and longevity. However, I do not see it in the catalog anymore.
  11. Print & cut on mettalic?

I just ran a pair of Jayco logos on silver metallic and the first one cut fine, the Graphtec picked up the registration marks without a hitch but the second one it missed a couple. A small piece of scotch magic tape on each one instantly fixed the issue. The funny thing is, I cut a bunch of...
  12. l26500 Prints don't line up for contour cut

I normally run 30 - 36 inch material for smaller decals and have no problems. I just had a job that I printed on 27" General Formulations white static cling. I had to run 250 pcs on 8' long panels and had issues until I went to the intermediate registration marks the the guys above mentioned. It...
  13. Another font ID help thread.

Could be Bookman Bold slightly extended. Looks like the edges are not sharp either. Might this be a thermal die cut decal?
  14. Tiny label / decal for fishing rods

I used to print decals for a buddy who built fly rods. I printed them on the Edge on .001" clear polyester with deluxe gold foil which is a gold/chrome. It's not recommended for exterior use but generally, it gets buried in the clearcoat on the rods and holds up well. . . at least it did on the...
  15. Does anyone use LexEdge?

Between the LexEdge and the adhesive that we use, there would be slight variations in the thickness and our reject rate would reflect them. Adding the premask to the mix dropped the reject rate greatly and almost cut our "popping out" time in half. One of those"duh" moments. Why did it take so...
  16. Does anyone use LexEdge?

I'm mirror imaging on print side 1 and than applying adhesive to print side 1. I'm applying normal vinyl masking to side2, what will be the face side of your label. The premask acts as the carrying sheet of normal cut vinyl, it holds the lexedge together while cutting. Yes, I'm cutting all the...
  17. Does anyone use LexEdge?

I print thousands of these every year and use a tape from Tapes and Technical Solutions. ( 800-714-8806 ask for Darlene), It has a pink transparent polyliner which makes it easy to see and adjust your cut if need be. I've found the best way to cut these is to premask the face of the lexedge so...
  18. Graphtec fc3100-120--should I buy?

I ran a FC2100 for many years and it was a tank. Go to Graphtec's website and see if there are any drivers and Cutting Master plug in's available. I doubt that there are any new enough for CC apps though. I think that they have a special section for the older plotters.
  19. Best plotter for contour cutting laminated graphics ?

Nope, no weeding. There's so much difference in the thickness that you can get a clean cut on the backing paper. It'll tear instead of cut. Kiss cutting the face isn't much different than slit cutting the backing. Either one makes it easier to get the decal off.
  20. Best plotter for contour cutting laminated graphics ?

I set them up that way because I cut the sheets off the roll afterwards and stack them in 32" paper cutter and cut the whole batch into individual decals. I can chop through 100 sheets at a time easily for the final cut.
