  1. Maybe a homemade cleaning solution??

if you take an msds and reproduce the material, that is a little like being a manufacturer. latex paint, pvc glue, lacquer thinner, solvent ink, these are all common chemical blends.... not "inventions". there is no patent on basic industrial blends/recipes.
  2. The "How's Business" thread

all very large complex projects... a bit less than slammed (oct-dec is always nuts for me). it's nice to slow down to 12 hours a day lately. but getting bored with current processes. have decided to build either a 5' x 9' powder coating oven or kiln. this whole year has just been cranking...
  3. Maybe a homemade cleaning solution??

post a link to the msds... companies like to put the most rarely used synonyms for each chemical in order to detour their customer from figuring out the basic formula. maybe we can all get our brains together to shorten the reverse engineering process.
  4. Mimaki jv3-130spII Black ink Problem

here's a diagram i made showing a data swap (double cmyk... if you are running cmyk lm lc ss than just observe the cable positions). be careful what ribbon you switch with what ribbon. you can quickly fry a head, slider board, etc. basically the printer is oblivious of where the head rests...
  5. Mimaki jv3-130spII Black ink Problem

it does look like a bad head. but! this is what my printer did with a loose black data ribbon. i'd check the ribbons and then do a data swap to prove if it is the head or slider board, or mainboard.
  6. Mimaki CJV30-130 Media Comp not printing

how does it look when you just print? definitely looks like a data issue. but that could be caused by all kinds of stuff.
  7. Yellow streaking along prints xc540

i'd start by reseating the yellow data ribbon. inspect the ends for any ink or fraying.
  8. Roland sc-540 overspray/ streaking

for that model, i'd start cheap with a power down. most older rolands have static build up on the boards. turn it off front, off back, unplug, press front switch four times. i've seen overspray not be fixed with new heads. i'd do a data swap before you get a new head in that printer (not...
  9. ready to see some great art?

if you know the right people you can become a wealthy artist painting bad on purpose. ala george condo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjdbOumZBV8 there's others but i don't feel like adding to their fame.
  10. Mimaki CJV30-130 Media Comp not printing

send a pic! might help isolate. is it the black only?
  11. JV3-75 spII - Set a Cartridge - HELP

just take out the current ink cart that is in printer. unscrew the chip. stick it back in. the printer will think it is a cleaning cart. :)
  12. JV3-75 spII - Set a Cartridge - HELP

almost.... screwed. (if i understand correctly what's going on) from what i know the firmware doesn't know how to go backward after choosing ink types fills and cleaning stuff. if you don't want to waste a ton of ink and or cleaning fluid, just unhook your pump lines... put and empty cleaning...
  13. Machine taking forever to start up

this is absolutely not what is going on with your printer. but! just in case nothing else makes sense... i had an old encad that suddenly started taking forever to start up and in the end it was a power supply going bad.
  14. Service code unlocked?

you mean the service menu? well the more elaborate head alignment (for install and fine tuning) are there.
  15. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

results after cleaning.... well, thanks for all the input. so far this is where i'm at. cleaned the encoder strip with denatured alcohol. that worked slowly except for the dots of white ink. white ink just didn't come up with alcohol. i used cleaning solution for the white dots...
  16. ink on encoder strip

thanks sticky signs, i'm on it. didn't even think of that.
  17. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

thanks guys... dad is getting a bit tense. the weekend is here. the purple giant is a bit schizo and the 15th of this month is closing.
  18. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

@ gabagoo for silver or wood veneer, all you need is that white tape inside of that groove where the black rubber is. after measuring the tape the machine is oblivious to the material. but keep in mind, i've hacked the rear sensor that tells if you've raised the feet of the printer so i can...
  19. solvent printable art papers

i don't work with papers but i'd imagine you could size just about any paper you want with cab lacquer and it would print. for a quick test, get your client to bring you a paper that they like and spray it with krylin clear (krylon clear won't work as good as a professional cab but it will...
  20. ink on encoder strip

thanks for all the advice guys! looks like i'll surgically turn to the denatured. what concerns me is that i might be risking the strip when that isn't the issue. but i'm assuming it is. the other day i noticed that the margin started at about 1/2" on a sheet and by the time 8' had...
