  1. ink on encoder strip

where i'm asking about is the clear PET strip/microfilm that the carriage reads to track it's position. still not sure it is the encoder but would like to get the ink dots off and continue on in diagnosing the iffy margin. also sounds like i need to get some compressed air to blow out any dust...
  2. ink on encoder strip

i earlier left a question about a wandering right margin. mike@insignia had a hunch that it is a dirty encoder strip. well i have some small ink dots right behind the head carriage on the encoder strip. but water and alcohol isn't doing it (rubbing alcohol)... not sure if i should use...
  3. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

well, upon inspection the strip has some ink on it behind where the head carriage is parked. a little white one, little magenta one, and a medium sized black one near the top. i understand that alcohol and water is what is used to clean the strip, but ink isn't going to come of with alcohol...
  4. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

that's not something i thought of (good idea to check). if there's a dirty line that's seen sometimes and not other times, it would definitely cause the printer to lose count during the print without being aware. i think when it returns home (more slowly then when printing), it may be...
  5. jv3 (wandering margin problem)

need some advice before i start over nighting the wrong parts... the right margin on my jv3 160sp doesn't stay put anymore. this causes a tons of headaches in that each sheet gets several passes in the printer. so i need the print to register to a perfect consistent margin. currently, i let...
  6. branding my freelance venture

if that's going to be your identity for his clientele, you're going to need to abandon any font. instead, build your name from scratch in illy or corel. stack it into some kind of emblematic sheild or something. bloodbath and cursive just don't brand together.
  7. Mimaki JV3 75SPII - whats it worth

well, i'd say if printing perfectly between $3500-$4500. most 160sp's selling used are going for $4500-$5500. i'd do advanced search on ebay and choose "completed listings" and you'll get the latest prices/depreciation on used jv3"s.
  8. new or used printer?

    if you've got two spare 120v spots on a box, you've got a 220v. it's easy.
  9. new or used printer?

well, he mentioned that he's currently painting the golf carts. if he can already paint, adding a graphics option to his business would be nice. i don't think that is "going around" a sign shop. it's adding to his design options. and hell, if it's just carts and will stay carts for the near...
  10. new or used printer?

i wouldn't suggest sinking a bunch of money into an expensive printer until you prove to yourself that you have the ability to market, sell through, install, and also "enjoy" the business. all that can be found out with a $5000 printer. just owning a printer doesn't mean you are in the...
  11. Time Machine

shops will not have windows... and then signs. the windows will be "programmable glass". business vehicles will have programmable wraps made of graphine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTp8kEuZ1eY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sAc4nqAbOs&NR=1 china will rule the world. followed by india...
  12. My logo

i think tiki nailed it with the cross hair on the left and the grouping the orange. that is the best one yet.
  13. My logo

goofed around with it a bit
  14. My logo

if you insist on the font, the words should not be shorter than the graphic on the side. no outline, no shadow, and the "r's" look odd spacing-wise. i'd go all caps too. also, ar in "ar" and "ra" in graf should have an inverted play between them. it 's just too convenient to not exploit.
  15. Reviving a FREE FJ-500 pigment printer...HELP

the solvent parts will be fine for the water based. and you are a lucky bastard. that is a great water based machine. i am jealous.
  16. Logo Thoughts

it's a good start, but it's all over the place. leaning left, right, perpendicular... and not too crazy about the circle "and" laying over the vc.
  17. Please Help... Hairline streaks of color

those models have electrostatic build up issues. seen several times where completely booting the machine down can do magical things. (off on the front, off on the back, unplug, press front "on" button four times slowly).
  18. whats cheap and disposable that we can print on?

in houston i get it (it's been a while, it lasts forever) from apollo paper.
  19. whats cheap and disposable that we can print on?

i use white butcher craft paper for blueprints. so cheap it's free by the square foot.
  20. Help!!! Roland FJ52 & Epson printhead head rank?

printer techs have a conversion table to translate the epson numbers to other manufacturer numbers. but i'd take the above advice. plug in the printer and print. i've had a discussion with a tech that purposefully punched in the head ranks to see if there was a difference in a detailed side...
