  1. Print Vinyl for E-Z UP canopy

I have used DacTac, which is comparable to the FabricBrite. I didn't print it, just cut from color stock. You need a very aggressive transfer mask for the stuff. I actually use intermediate vinyl for premask. One thing that seemed to help adhesion significantly was to scuff the surface with...
  2. phone book

We're down to a three line add and considering dropping it altogether next year. Thing is, we're still basically a screen print shop and 95% or the phone book calls are for t-shirts and we've never printed them and never will. Maybe it would be more logical to place a "We don't print apparel"...
  3. Graphtec FC7000 is off cutting

Do you design with Corel or Illustrator? If so, just use Grahptec's Cutting Master plug in and cut directly out of the application without printed registration marks. It also will read and cut from the registration marks if you need to.
  4. ReAction / Smart Edit Help

In Illustrator you can go to Edit>Find and Replace. Type in what you are changing from and to and let it run. It will change everything in the document.
  5. Reflective Problems

If you've cut this from the same roll in the same position on that roll, you might just peel some back and make sure the adhesive is uniformly spread. I've had rolls that there was no or little adhesive on 3/4" of the edge.
  6. Cutting a roll into smaller sheets in bulk

I have a cheap matt cutter which works great for sheeting off rolls. It's great for magnetic material also.
  7. Vinyl for fire extinguisher

It's actually a adhesive backed aluminum foil. We screen print them for a number of companies who either type or write their serial numbers on them.
  8. Would this be a dye sub process?

It could be a pad printing process that he's referring to also.
  9. HP Z3100 vs Epson 7800?

I have and HP9000s solvent printer but I also wanted to replace my old HP5000 aqueous printer for photography and art prints. I've avoided Epson's because from what I've read, they seem to be ink hogs, especially with their head cleanings. Both the HP Z3100 and the Canons have a wider color...
  10. media for printing flags?

3P Inkjet Textiles makes a material called FlagTex. It's a open weave polyester on a paper backer. Side 1 images fine and there's a bit of an image that shows through to the back side. It is an open weave to neither side is really intense though. I printed a flag on the aqueous version on my...
  11. FC-8000 160 width help

It reads off the material clamps, not the actual vinyl.
  12. Plotter Blades

I just switched to Clean Cut myself. I cut tons of .oo5" lexan with a heavy duty adhesive laminated to to the back, with my GsX Plus. I generally have 4 cut paths stacked. I dropped the paths to three and dropped my knife pressure in half and am still tweaking things. I've also dropped the...
  13. Life size cut out stands

I use 6mm coro cut to an easel shape. I split one side of a flute about an inch from the edge and adhere it to the back with good DF tape. I'll take another 2" strip and with velcro on the ends which are also slit to bend, attach one end to the figure and the other to the easel fold out. If you...
  14. Material for Small signs...vehicle mags...Epson GS6000

Oracal 3164 is a .004" vinyl and a bit thicker and stiffer than the other Oracal vinyls. We use it on all of our "cheaper" products like small decals and coro signs.
  15. Sihl Trisolve Posters sticking together

I've run quite a bit of this stuff on my HP9000s. I print in 8 pass mode which probably gives them a bit more time to dry before they roll up. I know that 4 pass would never work. I have had some slight sticking but not enough to mar the prints. Once cut I do rack them on my screen print drying...
  16. For those who ride their bikes in the snow...

Hmmm, and how do you use your brakes?
  17. Michigan is a great state!!

Wow, you were still running OS 8? Amazing. Amazing more is a functioning Roland PC 600. I have kept an older Mac G4 just to run my Gerber Edge on Illy 10. A set up like that with a used Edge would fulfill everything that you Roland does and more. But, finding Illustrator 10 AND MacImprint would...
  18. Flexi-Sign...who uses it? Poll??

I got a demo version back in 89 or 90 when Flexi was only a Mac program, yea, really. I was using Illy 88 at the time and cutting with Signpost, a bridge app. The one thing that I really like is that they had the color vinyl pallets which was pretty cool. In the end, I just stuck with Illy and...
  19. Cross cut on FC8000

I don't know if you can do it automatically or not. Manually, on the 7000 at least, it's Menu>Next>cross cut> cut.
  20. HP Designjet 3500CP, a list of questions......

If time is money, you might be spending way too much on a "free" printer. You're much better off purchasing a used 5500 as suggested above. You keep mentioning switching from dye to UV. I'M NOT SURE how the 3500 works but the 5000 series has a complete ink system changeout so switch. Ink thanks...
