Seems to really depend on the tension that the media has to begin with.
But it seems to help across the board for more consistant feed.
Yes, the little locks are for tension.
They should both be engaged.
Loosen up the screws and push the lock slot into one of the tabs on the tension device.
The Spectrovue is driven by the RIP when creating profiles and is self contained in the printer for simple process control.

The USB port is a hold over from the CAD printers like the RJ-900 (which all used the same design motherboard).
The USB port requires a Window driver, and no Windows drivers have been written for the 1304...
I typically run 35-40 preheat
38-44 platen
50 dry.
So you are in the ballpark.
Sounds more like the media.
Are you getting a smooth print, with no anomolies?
What are your heat settings?
Dry should be high, but pre and platen should be lower.
You may be overdrying the ink before it gets a chance to hit the media and embed.

Check the top menu structure for some thing like "Options".
Or just look through them until you see a set of menus with check boxes that turn the options on in the "Set Up" menu.

I have seen it done with full solvent.
The paper fibers wick quite a bit, and the paper is thin so density and resolution wasnt all that great.
It took a custom profile and served the needs of a small grocery chain.
