  1. Getting rid of rectangular border from imported image

Can you select the bitmap then go to Bitmap, Make Transparent? It gives you a little wand that you can "brush over" (just a quick click) the white area then click the check mark. Not sure if that gives you what you need or not.
  2. Which material is best for football helmet decals?

    Convex, I second that.
  3. Best way to attach something to banner like material cart

Convex vinyl might work...it's very aggressive. www.convexvinyl.com
  4. Complaining about attitudes on S101?

I don't think it's a terrible place at all. If you want to see people get mean, support your favorite political candidate on FB - that gets the party started every time! :rock-n-roll:
  5. What do you guys prep surfaces with

70% isopropyl alcohol and I wipe it 2-3 times. I don't use anything else on glass unless there's sticky residue, then I use Rapid Tac - then alcohol, 2-3 times.
  6. Employees Are The Worst

If you have 1-2 employees you pay at $20 hr they will probably do the work of 2-4 employees and not make mistakes. I'm guessing most of us can get more done in one day than most people do in a week - just like a $20 employee.
  7. looking for digitizing embroidery

I use them as well and have been happy with the results
  8. Red Alumalite

The sign I need to create has a red background and just the word "tattoo" in white on it 4'x8'. There is a two week wait for the Red Alumalite from my regular distributor and they don't want to wait that long. Would I be a fool to use 48" red vinyl and then apply the white over it? I don't do a...
  9. Process.

YES! Most everyone that walks in the door is already committed. I don't do a lot of installs and the largest sign I will make is 4'x8'. For larger jobs, we almost have to provide some type of sketch or limited design to provide an accurate estimate. For smaller jobs, like Tee-Shirt guy last week...
  10. Critique requested

The U caught my eye right away lol -- I like Gino's swan...play with the fonts - I also agree with using blues
  11. Process.

I no longer do any computer design work until they are committed. I rough sketch as they talk to me and show them samples of my past work as we chat so we can both get on the same page. Most of the time they say - go ahead and they commit. Make sure you have plenty of photos of all your work, it...
  12. Do you warranty your signs?????????????

I do the same for cut vinyl on vehicles. One customer scratched the letter E on his rear van door 3 times with his toolbox over several years! Very good customer, I replaced all 3 times and we still laugh about his clumsiness years later. His business over the years more than made up for the few...
  13. Do you warranty your signs?????????????

I tell customers the manufacturers expected life of the materials and what my own experience is with certain products but I don't put anything in writing. I would replace/repair if reasonable - fortunately I've not had many issues.
  14. Texas' High-school Football Obsession and half million dollar sign

That's one heck of a sign! We are getting a new stadium at our high school complete with artificial turf...I wonder if our sign will be as nice...I HOPE NOT!
  15. Need Help Large Sign Needed

I have a sign that needs to be replaced that is larger than I normally make. Size 4'11"x11'. The original artwork was on a white background...not an issue. Now, they've changed the background to dark blue. I'm looking for either a print that is large enough to cover the sign board or someone who...
  16. Trademark question

Totally agree and I didn't think about the old owners possibly going back into business. He needs his attorney to get written permission from the old owner or START CLEAN...makes perfect sense. The old business is in MN and the new on is WI...not sure there would be much confusion as the...
  17. Trademark question

I have a client who worked for "Nomad Pipeline Services" - it is now out of business. He is starting is own business and wants to call it "Nomad Surface Preparation" but would like to use the same font/colors. I said I need to look into this. For your viewing purposes, I've created a quick...
  18. Some clients...

Talking about wasting time - here's a good one. I have a client who also rents from me that is making stand for event fairs. He has spent hours talking to me about this stand that he expects me to make and how he's going to operate his racetrack. I said I don't make stands, I make the signs that...
  19. Vehicle wraps in the cold

I would talk to your local electrician or plumber or anyone that has a metal pole shed in your area to rent. I rent one for $75 per use and have 2 other connections as well. Most people are happy with the extra money and don't mind at all. Tents...heaters...ugh, pay for a nice area.
  20. Discussion How do you stay organized?

I work alone. I start at 6, I organize my production for the day then work on estimates. By 8 I'm ready to move around and get to work on production. My alarm goes off at 1 so I don't forget to place any orders for materials I may need. The last couple hours I finish up whatever needs to be...
