  1. Cut vinyl or a durable sticker?

Avery uses a blue tinted backer on their white vinyl, so its easy to see what you are doing.
  2. Many Questions! Channel Letter installation

If you ask any channel letter manufacturer, they all say "This is the easiest thing in the world!!" and "TRUST US, YOU CAN DO IT!" "WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU!" So then you order the signs from them, and as soon as the check clears they are done with you, they don't care about all your...
  3. Using standoffs for donor walls

Most colors are the same on the front and back, but I know (at least) the Cast Pantone colors from Avery are white on the reverse side. Sooo, just double check that the cut vinyl has clear adhesive. I would assume all calendared vinyls are fine to use.
  4. Supplier Needed - Acrylic Room Signs

You might try to find someone with a laser cnc to fabricate the parts for you. Or you could call Gemini, but I think they are going to be more expensive than trying to find someone local. I would call a plastic dealer close to your shop, and see if they know of anyone who fabricates acrylic...
  5. NEED ADVICE - Frosted glass film issue - how to handle?

Can you just add a reverse cut to the inside of the office, so the "offending streak marks" are hidden? I know it will effect the opacity of the frosted vinyl, but if its in the direct sun, that might work well. FWIW, we always install frosted glass dry.
  6. Which one would you get?

We've had no problems with our US Tech Cold Laminator. Its the only laminator I've ever had, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but we like it.
  7. outstanding invoices

Yeah, so is ours. I don't understand how people can be so confused... Just because I'm not physically sitting at my desk doesn't mean my shop isn't operating on its own, making money on all the the other work we having coming down the pipeline. So I'm going to rename Prevailing Wage Rate...
  8. Vinyl not sticking to painted MDO

We use SW All Surface Enamel all the time and have never had a problem with vinyl sticking to it. But I don't know anything about the Hexis vinyl.
  9. outstanding invoices

    You can't live on $115K a year?
  10. outstanding invoices

Eh. The shop rate is for making the signs, loading up the truck, travel time to/fro. But the labor is what it is. Have you been successful in charging significantly more than PW for labor? If you have 3 people on a job, do you triple your shop rate?
  11. outstanding invoices

Someone is always in the shop. Yes, it is much more profitable for me to be out in the field slapping up some stickers and having others do what I pay them to do anyway. To answer your question, right now, I would much rather be making $115K a year installing signs. If I could make that much...
  12. outstanding invoices

Gino, $56/hr is equivalent to about $115K a year in salary. No, I do not make $115K a year, nor does my partner. So YES, is someone wants to pay me and my partner (who is also my husband) almost $4500 for a week's work, I'll take it. If you taking home over $230K a year, then great! Good for...
  13. outstanding invoices

The company I do work for's contracts are exclusively government / public entities. The organization who hired me is just the project manager, the projects they work on are 100% government funded. I guess this makes a bit of a difference, and I'd have a hard time with that big a loan as well...
  14. outstanding invoices

We increased our sales by over 35% by working with a company whose payment terms SUCK. The first job we did for them, I actually included the costs in loan I was applying for (timing is everything, right?), and then payed it off as soon as we received the check. Honestly, it took closer to 6...
  15. Non-Neon Lighting / Searching for a Deeper Red

Thanks. There is a neighboring shop that has what he thinks is a deeper red. I'm going to suggest he ask that shop who did it and go from there. I just looked up the Sloan light strips, and the installation is much more involved than the stuff available from Outwater. (Outwater's product is like...
  16. Non-Neon Lighting / Searching for a Deeper Red

I have a client who requested we install "non-neon" along his store front. We have samples of this in our shop, and its a pretty cool product. The problem is he doesn't think the red is "red enough" for his facade, so he asked if we could get it in a different color red. Do you know of any...
  17. Best T-Shirt Material...

    The T_printz 3197 is only 2 mil.
  18. Best T-Shirt Material...

I like Sihl T-Printz. Its thinner than other materials I've used in the past, and wears well. We also haven't had any problems weeding it.
  19. outstanding invoices

The majority of the time, we are paid in full at the time signs are delivered. Every once in a while, we don't get payment for one reason or another. I've found that calling and emailing invoices is not nearly as effective as sending them an invoice in the mail. And bonus, our overdue invoices...
  20. How to deal with this type of customer?

Sometimes "that's just the way its got to be." I think the problem is that you gave her too many choices. And honestly, the proofs were so similar, that there was no reason not to just propose one and go from there. We have had the same thing happen, and you never know WTF is going through...
