  1. Houseboat sign critique

There is a local restaurant/bar called BEER:30, the sign is made to look like a large LCD alarm clock & works well, makes everyone laugh. Might be a good option to try. http://www.myspace.com/cardisbarandgrill
  2. SP540 Head height

We used to print some things like banners & magnetics on high in the past, but now we print everything on the low setting (less ink overspray & better quality), and do not direct print on magnets. We print 99% on the regular setting & only switch to high quality on things like magnetic business...
  3. Cleaning swabs

The foam make-up brushes/sponges commonly found at local dollar stores work great also.
  4. Recent Wrap

Here's another one we just completed today. :rock-n-roll:
  5. Aligator Skin Wrap ! .... (and you thought a Chrome Wrap was sick)

No, the question is why is the other girl wearing any?
  6. Need Your Tough Love (Input)

    - black background on the entire wrap. - yellow/orange lettering with a black glow & possibly a (muted) gradient effect on the text. - Different font or use their logo for brand consistency. (or come up with a better logo & sell them a sign also?) - better flames? - prominent address, if that's...
  7. 4" round cutting dies

We use The Stewart Company here in Cincinnati, OH for our dies. Their number is 513-646-8949, they are quick & cheap. Round magnets can get to be a PITA, this is the best way we've found to do them though.
  8. Recent Wrap

Customer came in with their old marketing materials for a facelift, we designed some cards/magnets & brochures for them & they loved them. They bought a "new" truck and wanted a wrap. I thought it came out great, but the tiles on the cap were a PITA.
  9. Large Plastic Rivets?

Thanks for the ideas - this is a pretty busy wrap, so many may hit important elements or other things that would be hard to match easily. Anyone else have suggestions?

  11. Ignorant cheap people...this is driving me nuts!!!

Even your quoted $3000 is less than we would do a LWB sprinter high-roof for. Wraps are readily available, so you know customers are shopping around. You are selling the design, anyone can print & (some can) install a decent looking wrap; a good wrap is a rolling billboard so to speak, and...
  12. Large Plastic Rivets?

A customer brought a box truck by for a wrap quote a few days ago & we are getting finalized on the design now, but I am still concerned about the large plastic rivets on the box. They are smooth white plastic(?) rivets, almost like white teflon possibly? Has anyone else dealt with these? I...
  13. CS5 Photoshop Content-Aware Fill

Very nice, I can see the sampled/replaced pixels in some of the examples, but not at all in others. This will do the majority of the work for most people for fixing things like demonstrated, but some cleanup will still be required. I can't wait to try my own panoramas... I really really like...
  14. Printing in Illustrator

You cannot print edge to edge on any type of paper stock (besides those small photo printers), there are always margins that the printer requires for the feed rollers, etc. If you require a full bleed, then you will have to print on oversized stock and trim it down. You will have to contact a...
  15. Oh no, Banding and ink droplets on SP300i!

droplets at our shop usually come from the environment - was your previous print job a banner? Those fine "hairs" around the edge of the banner & hairs picked up by static electricity as you load the media get stuck to the damp print head as it passes of the sheet & the ink spray collects on it...
  16. Versaworks Not Opening?

    Pat, that worked excellently! Thanks!
  17. Versaworks Not Opening?

I installed an update (the major one?) a week or so ago, but since Monday I have not been able to get Versaworks to fully load. It looks like it finishes loading; goes through the jobs in the database, then "miinimizes" into the tray and when I click on it nothing happens. Can't Alt+Tab to it or...
  18. Wrapping a globe (sphere)

I would assume he's not wrapping a globe with another image of a globe, but needs a "sinusoidal" template/instructions/converter to create an image to wrap over an existing globe for a customer. Am I reading this right? However, I cannot help you with this.
  19. How do you store your vinyls...

For the larger rolls we use the shipping "ends" that hold them in place in the boxes. These seem to work excellent, but the new Avery ends we received on a few rolls seem a bit more flexible/cheap, thankfully we have like 10 million of these, lol. For the 24-30" rolls we had some wall mounts...
  20. how long to wait after painting plywood

I agree with the others, especially with you having to do on-site to remove the sign, bring it back, clean, strip, prep, paint, etc BEFORE you even get to apply the new graphics. All the while this customer is without their sign. Even just buying a new piece of plywood is going to be cheaper...
