I have been running these machines for 15 years and fixing them for 10. You can leave a machine for many days without causing permanent damage. You might have to do some cleaning and maybe a head soak but the time it takes to get a new cartridge is not going to destroy your printer.

Run all of the encoder calibrations and then try the print/cut alignment again. If your encoders are not properly calibrated, cut alignments don't work at all.

Yes 15 billion which is about 2.5 times the expected life of the head. I would assume that the printer has had the head changed in the past but the head rank was not entered so the shot count never reset. There is no way that head lasted for 2.5 times the expected life.

The CJ500 was released when I was still in grade school. I work on over 50 models of machines and the CJ500 is one of the worst.

It's because your computer went to sleep. Go into your power settings and turn of automatic sleep mode. These printers don't have a lot of memory on board so they rely on the computer to keep data streaming. This has nothing to do with the print head.

Back in the day Roland machines would excessively clean if it detected you were using 3rd party ink. I'm not sure what ink your are using but if it's 3rd party I would suspect that to be the case.

Versaworks has notorious issues with EPS files and specifically cutting off the edges. Use a PDF instead.
