i have done this. down in key west there is a sign that allows for changing such a thing. i cut strips of PVC (1/2x1/2"" and placed a 1/4" rider protector edge on top of that. i used HH-66 plastic glue to bond everything. it works very well. all the PVC sliders were then cut of 1/4" thick stock.

i totally get this issue. most likely the window has some kind of film on it. i am having this problem with vehicles sometimes as well as some storefront windows. i have used all my cleaning solutions and no luck. i have to soak the tape to release the vinyl. -mosher
